Vanilla opens her glistening eyes, then peers over towards her window. Slightly bright rays of golden light are peeking through the curtains; it's dawn. She looks over at her master, or rather more accurately, her servant, noticing that she has not awoken. Not wishing to disturb her, she stays put and waits patiently. Soon, though, a loud beeping noise insinuates from a strange device located on the top of a dresser. Although startling, it does not scare Vanilla. The strange noise is apart of her almost daily routine, and thus she has become accustomed to it. This irritating device awakes her master with a start, and Vanilla watches as she quickly gets out of bed to subdue the odd machine. Vanilla now knows it's time to get up, now that her master is up. She stands up, stretches her long slender legs with her back hunched, and then finally yawns. She sits back down on her master's bed and watches her as she leaves the room. Soon after she is gone and after Vanilla has taken in her surroundings, she stands back up. She turns towards a coal colored desk located next to the large window in the room. Gracefully, she jumps over the gap between her masters bed and the black desk. The desk has a slick top, and thus Vanilla slides almost completely across the desk, but as she had done countless occasions before, she stops just before she reaches the edge. There, immediately behind this piece of furniture, is a window sill. Her favorite place to be is perched on that very window sill.

She lays down on the window sill, beside the window, while watching the neighborhood Mockingbirds. Her tail twitches with excitement as she watches some of the more daring birds come close to her. She knows, though, that there is some kind of see-through barrier that prevents her from catching said birds. She notices a familiar orange tabby cat stalking across the otherwise deserted street. You would think she would be jealous of this cat, for it is allowed it go where it pleases with nothing holding it back while she is stuck inside, forced to only watch the outside world. Though, she is not jealous. In fact, it's quite the opposite. She enjoys the perfect temperature inside, where as it is either freezing or boiling hot outside. Although perfect days like this may cause her to be envious, she knows she's better off inside.

Her master walks back into the room. Vanilla looks over at her and immediately stands up, then walks over to the edge of the desk that is beside the window. Her master walks to her and gently pets and scratches her. Vanilla begins purring, then hops off the desk once her master is finished with petting her. She walks across the room and jumps onto her Kitty Condo. Eagerly, she eats her X-shaped food that is lying on top of the Kitty Condo. Before she knows it, the sun is up high and her master is getting ready to leave for most of the daylight hours. Her master sets out her left over milk she did not drink from her cereal for her beloved Vanilla. Vanilla quickly jumps off her Kitty Condo and sprints across the room to the desk. She jumps up onto the desk and starts lapping up the milk that her master gave her. Knowing that if she drinks it all her stomach will hurt, Vanilla stops drinking the milk after she's had her fill. She sits down beside the bowl of left over milk, as her master walks over to her and pets her for one last minute.

After her master stops petting her, she watches as her master grabs up her purse and school material. The lights are then turned out, and after leaving the room, her master closes the door behind her. A few minutes later, Vanilla see's her master now outside and crossing in front of the window. She walks over to the window and rubs up against the window while purring and meowing at her as if she's saying good-bye. Her master walks up to the window and for a quick minute rubs her hand up against the cold window to make Vanilla think she's petting her. Soon though, her master is inside of a odd-shaped maroon machine. Vanilla watches as her master drives off out of sight. She lays back down beside the window and patiently waits for her return. This happens nearly every day, her master wakes up, then leaves for hours and returns just a few hours before dusk. Vanilla hates that she's left alone for so long, but has grown use to it by now.

It is now late afternoon. Vanilla is still laying beside her window, waiting for her master to come back, however she is now asleep. She has moved out of her spot a few times to eat, drink, and use her litter box, but other than that she has stayed put beside the window. She hears somebody stepping onto the front porch, a familiar sound. She wakes up and looks over at the front porch and see's her master. Vanilla watches as she walks into the house. After she is out of sight, Vanilla stands up. She walks to the edge of the slick-topped desk and pounces to her masters bed. Slowly, she walks across the bed and jumps onto her Kitty Condo, located right beside the door of her master's room. She sits down and waits for the door to open. Not to long after, her master opens the door and walks in. Vanilla immediately starts purring and meowing. She jumps off her Kitty Condo, down to her master's feet. Welcoming her, Vanilla rubs up against her legs. Her master welcomes her back by scratching around her head, her favorite place to be scratched.

After welcoming each other, her master walks over to the shelf beside the desk and gets out a transparent container of familiar smelling, X-shaped food. Vanilla follows her to the shelf, watching her every move. Her master turns back around with the jar and walks back to Vanilla's Kitty Condo. She opens the jar and fills up the empty cat bowl sitting at the top on the condo with cat food. Vanilla, hearing the sound of her dry food hitting the bowl's bottom, leaps up onto her master's bed. Eagerly, she gallops across the bed and jumps onto the Kitty Condo. She doesn't hesitate in starting to eat her food. When she feels her stomach is fill, she glances over at her master, who is now sitting at the desk with her feet resting on the soot colored, slippery topped desk. Vanilla jumps off her Kitty Condo and goes back to her window sill and lays back down. She watches as the Mockingbirds swoop down out of the almost navy colored sky to grab the bugs that roam around before dusk. She slowly closes her eyes, slipping into a peaceful sleep in the comfort of knowing her master is nearby.

When Vanilla awakes again, it has become dusk. The sky is now a deep blue with a few white sparkling dots known as stars that happened to make it past the downtown lights that normally obstruct the view of these beautiful dots. A few lightning bugs lazily fly past Vanilla's window, occasionally lighting up as a bright neon yellow, then quickly vanishing into the night only to mysteriously reappear in a new area. Vanilla had awakened to the sound her master close the noisy bedroom door after walking back into the room. She looks over at her and watches as she pulls on one of the two cords sprouting down from the ceiling fan, effectively turning out the lights and making the room near-pitch black. Her master then bends down to her box fan located on the dull grey floor, reaching behind the fan to the knob on it's back. After hearing two clicks, Vanilla then hears the box fan create a loud wind-like sound that won't dissipate. She watches as her master lays down beneath the covers of her bed. Vanilla looks over her shoulder at the window. She watches as the local cats strut back to their houses for the night before leaping onto her master's soft bed. She cautiously walks directly up to the pillow where her masters head would be. She watches and waits for her master to notice her. Her master reaches out to her and scratches underneath her chin for a minute to reassure Vanilla before settling back down. Vanilla carefully climbs on top of the pillow that covers her master's head, as it is used to block out any noises that manage to slip past the fan's barrier. She lays down directly on top of her masters head on the pillow and instantly falls asleep with the comforting scent of her master, her friend, within her nose.

Her Story

Vanilla is her name. She's as white as snow, and softer than an angel's touch. One of her eyes is emerald green, while the other is like the cloudless blue sky. From the very first day she showed up in my life, I knew she was going to be destructive. When I first held her, she unintentionally clawed up my expensive school uniform shirt, making it useless. When I took her home, I laid her down on my bed. Instead of exploring like a normal kitten would do, she decided to lay down on my pillow to sleep. After that, I decided that she could not be allowed outside. Where I live, a person would eagerly snatch up a sweet pure white blue eyed kitten, regardless of whether or not they have an owner. She preferred to stay in my room more than any other room in the house, and after a while she was always in my room. Now, she lives in my room. Over the next few months, her blue eyes slowly turned into the eye colors she now has.

When she was still a kitten, she would cry and yowl every time I left the room since I would always close the door to my room, leaving her alone in my room. Even if it was just for a minute, she would still sit by the door and yowl. Even now, she still gets upset if I don't directly go to my room and pet her after I get home from school. Everyday when I come home from school, she is patiently sitting next to my window, watching and waiting for me to return. When she was still a kitten, she would try to suckle from my hand. I don't know why she was choosing to try and suckle from my hand, but she was obviously trying to suckle.

I have had her since late 2010, after just one year with me she's became very dependent on me. I cannot leave her home alone for more than a day or she'll destroy everything in my room, angry at me for leaving her. I take her on all the road trips with me due to that, whether it's a trip down to the coast or a trip to another state. During these road trips, her cage has to be close enough to me for her to see me. If I don't at least have my fingers sticking into her cage to reassure her that I'm there, she'll yowl until I reassure her. She also knows when it's me sticking my fingers into her cage and when it's somebody else. If it is anybody else, she'll continue yowling. If it's me, she'll stop and calm down. During road trips, she will not sleep, eat, drink, or use her litter box unless I'm in the room. If it is nighttime, and she is unable to see me, she will yowl until I move her right beside me. She also gets upset if a stranger picks her up or pets her whenever we're away from home, however she will quickly calm down whenever I take her back. She will not leave my side when we're in a unknown place.

However there is a darker side to her seemingly perfect personality. As all cat owners know, cats are destructive. It's in their nature. In the first year I had her, she destroyed about $800 worth of items and torn a large hole into my wall. By now I've learned that if it's easily breakable, either put it away or put it up high and out of her reach. Even so, she still amazes me with how she's still able to destroy items that you wouldn't think a cat would be interested in. For instance, I can't have pillows with beads in it instead of actual pillows. She will bite on it when I'm gone, causing holes in it. Due to her, I cannot have carpet flooring. She will quickly ruin it in a matter of hours. Everything I own has to be either against a wall, on a shelf, or put down with double sided tape. Otherwise, she'll tip it over and break it.

The green snake in her treasure chest represents my Rough Green snake. Vanilla loves to watch him in his cage. The pillow represents my pillow, she loves to sleep on it, whether or not I'm sleeping on it too. The quilt represents how much she loves to go and explore underneath my covers.
