Duskdreamer is a strange, strange cookie. We found him in the pound, curled up with a horde of friendly Kumos. His name even suggested that perhaps he had been a Kumos once. He certainly had many of the doggish personality traits of one. Records suggested that he'd been in the pound for about four years, which we decided would never do! Naturally, we brought him home, renamed him, and made him comfortable. He's got some pretty odd quirks. He doesn't cast a shadow, for one thing. He never makes a sound--no vocalizations--and even his movements are noiseless. The way he eats is by absorbing objects through his skin as though he's made of absorbent jello. You can feed him through his "face," but he much prefers us to set his food on his side, where it sinks away like a movie quicksand victim.

Although he sounds a bit like the beast in a horror movie, we quickly discovered that Dusk is a reflection of the old adage, "Never judge a book by its cover." When he doesn't intend to eat something he is warm and a bit leathery, and fun to snuggle up with. He is obviously very intelligent and enjoys collecting shiny objects, strange rocks, fossils, and bones. He is riveted by the reading word. If we walk by with a book, he will stop everything to beg for storytime. He's our special joy and we couldn't imagine our group without him!
