Life Excerpt

Judarr could feel his energy diminishing. Through sheer will he managed to open his eyes. For what felt like the millionth time he looked around the room. His cell. It was pretty dark, and very dreary. But worst of all for Judarr was the fact that there wasn’t any windows. It’s what made the stay in this cell that much worse. He shifted his gaze and looked down at his tail. When he first was placed here the tip of it had been glowing and drizzled stardust wherever he went. Now there was only a dull light emanating from it. He knew that the same was true about his ears. As he was thinking about this and staring at the opposite wall there was a sudden commotion outside the door of his cell. He quickly turned his head towards it, which made him feel a bit queasy. Listening closer to the noise outside he could tell that it was further away than he’d first thought, but it was in the building. And it sounded like fighting. His energy was now fatally low and he was having trouble keeping his eyes open. He could feel his breathing getting slower and shallower with every breath.



As minutes passed the noise outside got closer and closer to his cell. It was a struggle to keep his eyes open now. Suddenly it grew quite. Then with a loud bang the door to his cell flew off its hinges. Judarr’s vision was quite blurry now but he could still make out several shapes outside his cell. Some of them seemed to be moving into his cell. One of them moved over to him and did something to the cuffs that held Judarr’s arms above his head. A moment later his arms fell to the floor. Another figure moved closer after one of the others said something. When the person was next to him they crouched down and then Judarr felt them pushing their arms behind his back and underneath his knees. Then he was lifted up gently. He could feel them moving but all he could manage to focus on was the heartbeat he could hear and feel from the chest of the person carrying him. It was so steady, and strong.



As soon as they got outside and the moonlight reached Judarr he could feel his energy returning. His vision stopped being blurry and he could feel his breathing getting stronger. He looked up at the one whose arms he was in. What he saw was a handsome face with fairly pale skin, piercing blue eyes, wild white hair, pointy ears and curved black horns. The guy seemed to notice him staring because he looked down at him, gave him a stunning and warm smile and winked at him. Judarr quickly lowered his gaze and could feel himself blushing.
-”You seem to be doing better already.” Judarr was a bit startled by the statement.
-”Um, yeah...it’s the moonlight. It...replenishes my energy.” He chanced a glance up at the guy and caught a glimpse of him nodding slightly.
-”Right. There was no windows in your cell.”
-”No, there wasn’t.”
-”Do you know if they knew you needed it?” Judarr turned his gaze to the ground.
-”They knew what they had in there. They knew I needed the moonlight.”
-”Hm, well I guess it was a good thing we turned up when we did, eh?” Judarr looked up at him again. “Couldn’t let a cutie like you die just like that.” Another smile and a wink and Judarr could feel the warmth rising on his face. He was definitely blushing now. “The name’s Acheron by the way. What’s your name?” Judarr smiled shyly as he memorized the name.
-”Judarr. My name’s Judarr.”
-”I’ll make sure to remember that.”
