The fire melted into puddles on her face.

It had happened again. She had lost it again.

She turned and walked away, paying no mind to what they thought. Soft mumbles. Her name called out. There was no point in staying. The beast flickered, and her pace sped up to a sprint.

The park was a painted sunset. The air tasted like water droplets on the tip of her tongue. Dew on glass, it was almost as if she could have leant in to kiss it. Love smeared mid-nothingness, neatly framed by the remans of her breath. However, she was in no mood for affection. Blood aflame, she was angry. Raging. Searing with hatred. It dripped down her face and nurished the ground below.

It had happened again, and there was nothing she could do to take it back.

The girl quivered, gritting her teeth like a clamp over her emotions. Her nails dug into her palm as if they were the gateway to her senses. Quietly she straightened up - shoulders tense, face blank, eyes shimmering...

It would have been fine if she could just have held her breath.

However, sometimes the only way to cure a burn is to drown.

As the leaves were swallowed up into the shade of the red maple, she fell down with them; shrinking to their size in her wish to disappear entirely.

Cool winds carried kites that sung of long journeys ahead. Each day was discarding minutes like worn plumage. Soon it would be time to wander, time to whisper, time to sleep.

She wished she could sleep forever; to never have to care this much again.

Soggy hair stuck to her face in awkward clusters. She didn't want to acknowledge them, so she let them be. The sun had taken most hard shadows with it, forcing the girl to re-emerge into the world of Everything Else. It was a caring act in its own way. She got up and stretched towards the field of lavenders above. It smelt of night. A sigh eased her shoulders as her fingers unstuck the hair from her cheeks. Candles burnt gently in her eyes.

Setting off, she took back her wish. As painful as it could be, she wouldn't want to miss this life for the world.

Even if it happened again... even if she lost it again... even if her heart burnt too bright to be contained again ... she would always find her way home.
