I am flames and shadows, but not darkness. I am destruction, but also warmth and light. What am I? What is my place?
She didn't remember how she died, but could feel the flames. It was confusing, but what stunned her the most was to suddenly wake again, flames clinging to her without pain. There was heat, but it was warm and welcoming--unless she wished otherwise. Over her stood a creature from a distant land, smelling of sand and wind and light, but the creature was not like others of her kind, she was winged--angelic.
Rise and live one more time, the creature had told her.
But how was she to do such a thing?
The decision came to her later that night, after she had followed the creature back to a strange human who--collected peculiar creatures. Not many--yet--but it was sure more would come. They all smelled of far away places, and she found out the identity of her rescuer. The Neela Carysa, a servant of Shinwa.
Her new form as mixed light and shadows meant she could walk both paths, to serve the darkness and the light both, to help her savior in turn. And Tigreans were always welcome in Maleria's court. She hoped it would be enough to repay the debt of a life for a life. Eventually.
