- married to a trauma surgeon. picked him because he is physically attractive and absent often. no children, no desire for them.

- she likes puzzles. most of her patients she finds very dull, but sometimes someone interests her and she throws herself into working the person out. she does help a lot of people, but not exactly on purpose

- in her professional life she is intensely friendly but at the same time detached, unless she takes a particular interest in you

- callous towards other people. gets labeled a bit odd because she sometimes has a hard time covering this up. some people she works with wonder why she seems mostly unaffected by the nature of her work

- mostly uses people and abandons them, but she does have a few she has let stay around

- her best friends are ken and lizzie. joelle enjoys that they are both rather unpredictable interesting people with lots of interests and connections. she finds it useful and a bit amusing to have one male and one female friend

- she finds it exhausting to pretend to enjoy other people, their company and their lives. spends the minimum socially acceptable amount of time with her chosen friends and the rest by herself. sees her husband for dinner about once a month. often works late at night so no one else is around

- she stalks some of her patients, going through their trash, breaking into their residences when they're out, watching them

- likes to see bodies, dead and alive, and watch autopsies. believes death is beautiful, and people look the most lovely after death when they're laid out on the table. she likes to be fully able to control people, to play god. she likes pretty women, and sometimes men. bathes them after death, washes their hair, dresses them up, lays them on their beds

- first crimes were arson, setting abandoned buildings on fire. never caught

- enjoyed sleeping with masochists, then moved on to hurting people who were not into it

- enjoys getting into physical fights

- at the age of 19, in the mid-80s, befriends a lost traveller in SoCal, marianna. she encourages marianna's bad side, goads her into committing worse and worse crimes

- after a night of heavy drinking and drug use, herself and marianna bring a stranger from a bar into their motel room. they play cards and continue drinking. marianna, inexperienced, passes out, and the man molests her. joelle becomes very angry, and when he is not apologetic, she beats the shit out of him and accidentally kills him. she is angry at herself for being attached to marianna, blames the other woman for what happened, makes her help clean up the mess

- marianna, sheltered and traumatized, tries to go to the police but joelle intercepts her and they fight. marianna loses badly and joelle leaves her. she goes back to the motel and gets her car and dips the fuck on outta there

- the police never found the body (she can keep tabs on all her murders by collaborating with the police) and she still lives in LA

- no record, tries very hard to maintain that

- changed her MO from when she was younger. mutilated, teeth and finger prints removed, randomly attacked, some strangled over a period of time. her idea of what she wants from these women has changed. still never fully satisfied. the reality never matches the fantasy, yet she still keeps chasing it

PERSONALITY » quietly assertive, erudite. obsessive, thorough. usually doesn't say much. bored, doesn't sleep much. addictive personality. wanders a lot. has had a lot of addresses.

there is something very intense about her beneath the friendliness that most people cannot place. they assume it is because of her line of work and she lets them.
