It had seemed like he had been searching for decades. Well, it had been a long time. Years had past since he had last been at the circus, performing for a meager wage. Not that he ever complained. Being near her was enough.
Miamor smiled at the thought. She brought nothing but good memories to him. She was the reason he was on this mad quest. Performing on the streets for extra cash to keep him mobile. His gift was fortune-telling, specifically those involving love. That was his specialty after all. Well, for everyone but himself.
He looked out over the vast field in front of him. The sky was painted with a variety of pinks and purples and it was just so beautiful. His mind started wandering back to the circus.
Him and Sucric had been the best of friends. They had grown up together. He had been like a brother to her, letting her vent her frustrations and offering kind words and gentle touches. She always talked of seeing the world and finding love. And oh how he'd laugh and joke with her, trying to ease the pain. He never noticed how serious she was about leaving until it was too late.
He had woken up and she was gone. That was the only day his smile vanished. He looked everywhere, through every tent and trailer, among the lions and elephants but she was gone. Less than an hour later, so was he. Miamor had decided that day that he would find Sucric and be with her no matter what. He'd make her happy. Make her smile. He'd show her what true love was.
If only he had realized that earlier.
He adjusted the pack on his back and continued forward, thinking of better times.
"Come on Sucric! You have to see this!"
"What could it possibly be Miamor? I swear if its something stupid!"
"No, no. I promise, its worth it!" He purred as he led her through the dense undergrowth surrounding the fair grounds. He wore a simpering grin as he held the reeds out of the way, opening up a path for his friend. She shook her head but walked past him. He heard her gasp and his smile only widened.
"I knew you,d enjoy it." He chirped, watching as she stood in amazement as fireflies flickered around them. The next thing he knew, her slender arms were around him, her warm tears staining his chest.
'"Oh Miamor. I hate it here so much. I want to leave and explore and see so much more wonders like this.""What better way to travel than in the circus?"
"You just don,t understand." She mumbled, wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes.
No, he really didn,t understand. He loved the circus. True their ringleader was a cruel man, a hard man. But there were far worse lives. Looking up, he saw the sky streaked with pinks and purples. He had seen hundreds of sunsets and each one was just as beautiful as the last. He pulled out a small black book and described it best he could. His plan was when he finally found his beloved Sucric, he'd present her a book of all of life's beauty. Maybe then she'd realize true love had been beside her all the time.
