They say that curiosity killed the cat, but is this always so?

As the school bell rang and the field flooded with running school students cheering for the summer holidays, all rushing into the local town to celebrate the end of the school year, a young girl walked slowly out of the building with no rush to get out.

As the noise of the school students died down, Nannette sat down on the field, enjoying her freedom in her own way, with a book and the nature around her. She took off her shoes, took down her long pink hair and lied back on the grass with her favourite nature book.

One thing about Nannette that makes her different to her class mates,is her love and interest in nature. Her bedroom was full of books and plushies of nature animals and flowers. As a child, Nannette would go out to collect insects to look at. She would also go and pick flowers for her bedroom window to make flower chains, which she still does in her spare time, as well as plant seeds for new plants to replace the ones that she had collected.

If there was ever a rat, mouse or spider in her house, Nannette would always be called by her mother to put the animal outside. As she did this, she would always comfort the creature and tell it that "everything will be okay"

Just as she was getting into her book, a yellow butterfly curiously landed on the top of her page.

“Hello there beautiful” Nannette admired the butterfly and its amazing colour. The butterfly sat there for what seemed to be forever, until it unexpectedly took to the air.

“Where are you going?” Nannette dropped her book and followed the butterfly, forgetting to put her shoes back on. It lead her out of the school grounds and through the local park where it stopped on a bench.

As she went up to the butterfly, Nannette cupped her hands ready to catch the butterfly, but as she did, it took to the air again and flew around Nannette’s head making her rather dizzy. When the butterfly finally stopped, it stayed hovering in the same spot then flew away from Nannette and stopped again, as to see if she was following.

Nannette got the message that the butterfly wanted her to follow and curiously, she followed the creature through the park and into the woods. Nannette hesitated as she approached the forest as she had never been here before and was not sure about whether it was safe to enter, but the butterfly was already in the forest and Nannette trusted it and followed through.

“Where are we going?” Nannette smiled as the butterfly lead the way into an unknown world to Nannette.

The butterfly began to fly faster and faster and Nannette was struggling to keep up, standing on sticks and stones that were beginning to hurt her feet, oh how she wished that she had put on her shoes before rushing off.

As Nannette had to run faster to keep up with the butterfly, she wasn’t watching where she was going and she tripped over a tree root and landed on the floor. Looking up she saw the butterfly fly off into the distance. Putting her head down in her arms to rest, Nannette fell sound asleep…

“Hello? … Are you alright? … Can you hear me?...”

As Nannette opened her eyes, she found herself looking into a pool of the greenest eyes she had ever seen. They glistened in the slightest of light that touched them. The boy was holding her in his arms.

“I’m glad you’re okay, I was worried when I saw you just lying on the floor.” His voice was soothing and reassuring. Nannette did not reply, for she couldn’t help but gaze into his eyes. When she managed to come away from his eyes, she admires all of his features. His dark brown hair, with highlights of green to match his eyes.

“Come on let’s get you up.” The boy helped Nannette to her feet.

“Thank you” replied Nannette and as he helped her up, she couldn’t help but take a look at his body. He was wearing a brown tank top which showed off every detail on his body and dark jeans. His trainers were meant to be white, but were mudded up from the forest floor.

“So, what’s your name and what were you doing on the floor?” He was trying to keep the girl still on her feet

“And why do you have no shoes on?” Nannette laughed at this in the sweet giggle that she always does”

“Oh sorry, I’m Nannette and well it’s a strange story really and you will probably laugh. I was relaxing on the school field reading my favourite nature book when this beautiful yellow butterfly landed on my page. It flew off and I followed it to the park and then it lead me into this forest. I left my shoes at school on the field with my book. I then tripped over and fell asleep” Nannette didn’t get the reaction that she was expecting. Rather than laughing, the boy just smiled.

“And what’s your name?” Nannette asked.

“I’m Jake” He then frowned at Nannette.

Jake noticed that Nannette was only wearing a short belly top and silky bottoms to match. “You look cold, you’re hardly wearing anything, let’s get you to somewhere warm” He lead the way deeper into the forest.

Eventually they came up to a small, open clearing. The sun beamed down through the tree tops. In the middle of the clearing was a small wooden cottage that stood on its own. The roof was made up of wood with leaves for decoration. The windows were stained glassed patterns with images of flowers and animals.

“Is this where you live?” Nannette was amazed.

“No I’m afraid not, but I do come here very often. Pretty amazing isn’t it” Jake looked at Nannette and noticed her blue eyes glistening with amazement.

“It’s perfect”

The boy lead her into the cottage and Nannette was shocked once again for it wasn’t a house as it seemed on the outside, but more like a den. It was all open, with no walls apart from the ones that were blocking the outside world. There was a large wooden table with wooden stools around it. Above was a big cupboard. In another part of the cottage there were hammocks that were decorated with vines and flowers. Nannette was in heaven.

As the day and evening went on, Jake and Nannette sat outside of the cottage and spoke about their families, hobbies and just general chit chat. Then as an owl started to hoot away, Nannette looked up and noticed the moon.

I really must go home, my parents are going to be going mad” Nannette got up off the floor and the boy sighed.

“What’s the matter Jake?” Nannette felt like she had done something to hurt him.

“I’ve never had someone around me that I can really talk to like I have you today Nannette and I will never forget you” Nannette noticed a tear as Jake spoke.

“Well if you show me the way out of here into town, I will come back and see you every day, we will be friends forever” Nannette smiled at the boy on the floor.

“That would be amazing” Jake jumped up and smiled. He then helped the girl out of the forest into the town., but as they got to the edge of the forest, they both noticed a golden glow in the dark that glistened in the moonlight.

As it came closer, it was recognisable as a butterfly, the same butterfly that lead Nannette into the forest to the amazing boy that she had met today. It stopped and hovered in between them and they turned to look at the creature. But instead of looking at the butterfly, they looked into each other’s eyes. The butterfly fluttered up and left the two gazing at each other as they leant forward and kissed.

The butterfly then flew away into the distance.
