-adopted from shelter, came with the story in description and profile-

Light seemed to seep through the entrance of the cave despite the snow that was falling on the other side. Curious, I sat up from my nest as a yawn escaped my mouth. Perhaps my mother had found something for us to eat after all. The thought of food sent my stomach into a raging fit as I rolled onto my back. It had been days since we had been able to enjoy a good meal, and it would be nice to snuggle into my mothers warmth. I couldn't help but let out a loud purr.

The sudden sound of crying assaulted my ears, and I rose to my paws and scampered further into the cave. It was a sound I had only heard once, and my mother had warned me to never get close to such a sound-- that it only spelled trouble. Despite the fear in the pit of my stomach, I was curious. I drew myself up, puffed out my chest, and slowly made my way towards the entrance. That is when I saw her.

A little girl about the age of seven sat cuddled against the floor about four feet from the entrance. She was shivering, drops of clear liquid crystals freezing a path from her eyes down to her chin. A human! I knew she must not have seen me yet as she continued to cry for her 'Mama', and her back was turned from me. The girl started coughing, and I lept into action.

I gently nudged her hand with my paw and watched as she looked up at me in horror. She straightened herself, and tried to back away from me. Instead of leaping at her and scaring her more, I laid at the entrance and started purring. She may be afraid of what I am, but at least she backed further into the cave where it is warmer. At least she will survive.
