Based SOLELY on Keith Bartlett's portrayal of the Wizard from the West End Apollo production of Wicked and NO other adaptation/actor/version.

"So tell me again, Mr. ... Oz, was it? Tell me how it all began" a middle aged man spoke, whilst reclining in his chair. He was clad in a tight, well-kept tuxedo, which was complimented by a pristine white shirt and black tie. The doctor looked good for his age, even with his long, greasy hair slicked back and skin creased by the lines forming around his sunken eyes and dry lips.
"I-I told you... My balloon... it was blown to a magical and wondrous place, where an-animals talk an-and----"
"They wanted to make you ruler?"
"Y-Yes, b-because they believed me to be... more a wizard, than simple magician! I-I know it sounds crazy, but its true! They... They thought I was won--"
"Wonderful?"
"Y-Yes, wonderful!"
The wizard paused for a moment, smiling to himself as he reminisced over when he had first arrived in Oz, the time before his lies and lust for power had gotten out of hand. People there had truly appreciated him, marveled over him in fact, more then they ever had or possibly would here, back in the 'real' world.
"I was the Wonderful Wizard of… Oz"
The interrogation went on for hours and the staff were relentless in their questioning. The 'Wizard' only got a break when his interviewer desired to change the tape, so that he could continue to record the investigation. Occasionally, they would bring him a glass of water in, although he never touched it, for he suspected that they might be trying to slip him something. The doctor did not believe a single word that his 'patient' had to say, despite his apparent 'interest' and that was made clear from his vacant expression and lack of enjoyment, even though the story never changed each and every time Oz retold it. He spoke in great detail about wicked witches, marvelous green elixirs and flying monkeys, which were all indications to the doctor, that the Wizard had lost his grip on reality. The only thing to back up Oz's ludicrous claims, was the fact that he had been found in the beaten up basket of a hot air balloon- that and he did have a small green bottle, which was akin to the elixirs in his tale. After making Oz relive his joy, sorrow, regret and confusion time and time again, the doctors finally saw it fit to announce the conclusion they had initially come to after hearing his story for the first time. They had deemed the Wizard clinically insane, in need of dire treatment. His hallucinations made him a threat to society, apparently, despite his age and far from aggressive demeanor. The poor man had been prescribed a 'cure', a cure which would not only nullify his memories of Oz, but also revoke most of his conscious self (although the medical staff made sure to play down the effects whilst telling him). At first, the Wizard protested and argued for his sanity, yet that only made things worse. They upped the dose and admitted him. He was sentenced to six grueling months in solitary confinement on a ward, with nothing more than the absence of his own trail of thought to keep him entertained. Then, the dose was lowered and he was released- but not completely. The poor Wizard was assigned a caretaker, who did anything but take care of him. He was more of a bully, whom was simply put there to make sure that the good man took his medication and remained sombre in public.
