Mog's life hadn't turned out quite as she had planned. For one thing, she hadn't always been called Mog. Until she was 8 years old, her name was Molly. She used to be a little girl. Molly had learned from a young age that her mother wasn't like other mothers. She did weird stuff in the basement, using big pots and large sticks. Molly later learned they were cauldrons and wands.
Curiosity got the better of Molly, and despite her mother banning her from going into the basement, she ventured down there one day while her mother was asleep upstairs. She prodded and poked a few things, sniffed the cauldron (which she noted was absolutely foul), then noticed an ornate box tucked away under a desk.
Molly opened the box to find a wand inside. She waved it around a few times, but nothing happened. Molly wondered if the wand could make her tall and glamorous like her mother. Then she remembered you need to say a rhyme to make it work - so she made one up. She whispered, 'magic wand so strong and bright, make me all pretty'. Unfortunately, the wand misheard her whispers, and promptly turned Molly into a kitty.
