Réng - Chinese for "to remain"

Reng was once a human mage.
However, this was during the time when such practices were taboo.
Abused from a young age, Reng began to despise humans. He much preferred animals.
Reng spent his days in the woods at first, before traveling to the barrens.
There, he encountered one of the elder dragons.
His abused past had carved Reng's heart into stone; not caring about the welfare of anyone but himself.
In an impressive display of his abilities, fueled by rage and jealousy of the creature's immortality, the dragon was slain.
It was said that Reng then replaced his own heart with that of the dragon, allowing mixed blood to flow through his veins.
He was rumored to then have an internal fire, unmatched by any other creature.
However this did not improve how people looked upon him as a mage and the people began to fear him. Reng continued to spend time with the animals, learning to change into their forms. In the end, the dragon form felt most natural to him.
The instincts of the dragon slowly began to consume him, and Reng began to freely attack cities and villages. A price was soon put on his head, the dragon mage traveled north and into the blizzard wastes. A new found hatred found for humans, Reng one day forgot that he was one as well.
His dragon form became his only form and the natural feral instincts overran his conscious mind.
The ice of the wastelands froze over Reng’s body; it would have killed any other creature, the extreme cold, but the heart of a dragon burned within him.
Reng spends his time wandering the cold wastes, a small part of him still craving human compassion.
