Life Excerpt

They passed right underneath him as he perched on the branch of a tree. Neither of them had noticed him. It would have been quite surprising if they had considering how good Kakuremichi was at stealth. That was why Rex entrusted him with these kinds of missions. As the best ninja in the Sky-Walkers he was the one who was sent out on missions involving scouting, reconnaissance and assassinations. That last kind was a rare occurrence though. Everyone knew that they could end this conflict in the blink of an eye if Rex just gave the order. Assassinating Storm ought to be pretty straightforward. But their beloved leader wasn't going to lead them down a road paved by blood. Kaku respected that. Even though he was trained in the way of a ninja, and therefore knew of many ways to kill a person, he wasn't fond of taking lives. Especially not if there were other ways of solving the problem.
Some of the more brutal members of their gang sometimes joked about what a softy Kaku was, but he didn't mind. He'd rather be known for that then to be ruthless. He was thankful though that these jokes stayed in the gang. His enemies still feared him and he definitely wanted to keep it that way. It made his job that much easier.
There was some truth to the jokes though, in a way. He had been known to tell his assassination victim's that he was sorry right before he killed them. He didn't really know why. It was just something he did. He figured it might have something to do with the target. Either way it didn't matter. If Rex wanted anyone dead by his hands he would do it, no questions asked. Thankfully those missions were few and far between though.
When the two Twister guards were out of sight he dropped soundlessly from the branch and shadow stepped his way over to some big crates that would provide him with cover. His mission was to try and find out if they were planning an attack or not. The state of the yard outside the warehouse wasn't giving anything away. There were a lot of Twisters doing combat training of different sorts but that was nothing unusual. Storm always had his gang training, scouting or guarding whenever they weren't attacking the village. He knew that there would be guards up on the ledges of the mountain range behind the warehouse. There always were. And they were always on the look-out for intruders, like him. Luckily for him he didn't really have to worry about them. It would take a miracle for one of them to notice him from up there. He was only concerned with the people that were now between him and the warehouse. He wasn't exactly sure how many they were but he estimated between 100-150 out there training. Plus the guards and the drill instructors. Kaku sighed. He didn't see that he had any other choice. He made a series of intricate signs with his hands and then he was sinking. Through the ground. Well, not the actual ground. He was sinking into the shadows. And now he was moving at high speed towards the building, up the wall only to stop once he was on the roof. He put his back against the wall covering the staircase that lead down into the warehouse. The door was opening and he heard footsteps. He leaned to the side and looked around the corner. What he saw was Blitz and Storm. Storm looked annoyed to see Blitz. Kaku settled down and concentrated on listening to what was being said. As a ninja all of his senses were heightened but Kaku usually chose to suppress them so that they were more like normal. He only used their full capacity in situations like this. When it aided him in a mission.
-"...They apparently seem to be taking it easy, Sir!" Blitz was saying. Sounded like he was reporting in from the Twister scouts that he knew kept an eye on the village.
-"Then this would be an opportune moment to strike, wouldn't you say?" So it would seem that Storm had been planning an attack. Kaku stayed in case anything pertinent was mentioned but all that happened was that Storm heckled Blitz for his stupidity. Then Blitz was leaving. Kaku waited until Blitz had closed the door before traveling through the shadows again. And once he was far enough away from the building he left the shadows and chose to run back to the village. He had an important report for his leader.

Kaku figured he must have been too focused on getting back to Rex. He didn't see any other explanation for it. He gritted his teeth in pain as he lifted his hand from where he'd pressed it against the side of his stomach. He was bleeding profusely. This wasn't good. Not good at all. He put pressure back on the gunshot wound and looked over to where his assailant was. He wasn't moving. Truth be told he hadn't stood much of a chance even after shooting Kaku. Lucky shot though.
With the help of the tree he'd been leaning his back against Kaku managed to get to his feet. He opened a pouch on his belt and got out a small container. He opened it and put his fingers into the content, covering them with a paste. He lifted his shirt and smeared the paste over the wound. He winced as he did, as the pain was almost worse than that of the wound itself. It couldn't be helped. He had to get back at all costs.

He felt drained, but at least he'd managed to get back and report his findings to Rex. Now he just wanted to rest. He leaned his back against the wall and sank to the floor. Rex had called for Sebille and she was now rushing over to him. She blushed as she told him she would have to remove his shirt. He smiled at her and then he removed it for her. It hurt a lot but he knew that letting her do it would have taken a lot longer and he didn't think he had that time to spare. Her face had gotten redder when he pulled his shirt off, but she looked relieved to have a wound to concentrate on now. She cleaned the wound so that she could get the paste out of it. The paste had some magic dampening qualities to it which would have meant that she would have had to waste a lot of energy healing him compared to now that the paste was removed. She put one hand over the other and held them over his wound. A moment later there was a bright yellow glow emanating from her hands and Kaku could feel the pain lessening as his wound was closing. When it was done he got up and offered Sebille his hand to help her up. She took it and smiled shyly at him as she whispered her thanks. He pulled her close and gave her a quick and light kiss on her lips.
-"Thank you, Sebille." He said in a hushed voice. She was practically beet red now. He smiled at her again, lifted her hand which he still held in his own and kissed it. He winked at her playfully before walking over to where Rex was.
