Deep in the jungle, a once glorious city lies in ruins. A city that stood proud and prosperous, now crumbling and forlorn. Within the heart of this long forgotten city, a great creature lies dormant. A magnificent beast of gold and steel left behind by its creators thousands of years ago. The machine was set as an automated defense against intruders trying to reach the city. Since the creators' sudden disappearance, though, no one has tried to explore the thick forest; let alone the decrepit ruin hidden deep within. The centuries of hibernation have taken its toll on the machine; it is rusted and covered in moss. The once gleaming steel is now stained green, the gold plating has become dull, and its beautiful gems have deteriorated into insignificant chunks of stone. What was once a sight to behold now looks like a pile of scrap metal and rocks.

Beyond the forest lies a small settlement of scientists and researchers interested in the lore of the lost city. Dazzled by the excitement of discovering that which no one else has even heard of, they feverishly worked to discover where the ruin now lies. Weeks passed since their arrival and they worked night and day scouring the forest for the smallest hint of the ruin's location. As the days roll by with no progress, the once enthusiastic group now silently sifts through the dirt on the forest floor, dejected. To them it seemed like there was no point and over half gave up and boarded their ships to return to their own planets empty-handed, but a handful of them pressed on. The remaining personnel spent days in the forest, and when almost all hope was lost, the team reached what they were looking for; a view that only few could imagine. Overlooking a large reservoir, what was left of the city stood proud; a testimony to the longevity of an ancient race long forgotten and only recently discovered. Hurriedly, the team made its way to the large golden arches that lead them to a massive set of doors covered in debris and overgrown vines and moss. It took the group of four scientists and the two remaining mercenaries three days to remove the overgrowth barring entrance into the city. Little did they know that as soon as the first researcher stepped through the barricade all would come crashing down for their investigation.

Dozens of silent alarms were triggered. Fortunately for the team, most of the traps left behind had fallen into disrepair due to the length of time that had passed, but one still remained. The great beast was beginning to awaken, sealing the fate of those who dare trespass into his home. The ground shook as the machine stirred and the force of the machine rising to its feet caused the ground to crack and crumble. Its rusted joints began to creak as it started to move for the very first time in over ten thousand years. The jewels that were once encrusted on its head disintegrated into ugly lumps of powder. The exhaust vents on its back vented out built up toxic fumes, killing all plant life that clung to its body, causing the dead foliage to fall into the cracks below. The dragon's jaws parted and it let out a shrill roar and the echo reverberated through the chasm.

The distance between the dragon and the team was too great for the advancing scientists to hear. They continued pushing forward into the ruins' depths. As they explored the ruins, it got darker and darker The lights of their flashlights reflected off the walls, revealing ancient carvings and paintings. Delving even farther into the ruins, they continued to look for clues to discover the history of the old race and what happened to them. The closer they got to the heart of the city, the quieter it became, but no one took notice. Soon the team reached what would have been the seat of government for the old race, but something seemed amiss.
