I've got a feeling in my gut now fills meWith so much hope

I can still remember what it was like living on the street. The air was cold and crisp, the only companion I had was my brother. We snuggled on the side of streets and waited until our mama came back. But one day, mama never did. My brother and I cried for her warmth, hoping she would hear us. Sadly, she never did. I'm not sure how long she was gone, but I remember the pain my stomach felt from lack of milk.
It was dark and cold, so my brother and I cuddled up to keep warm. Our bodies shivered as I saw a light coming towards us. "Could it be mama? I thought. A man knelt down in front of me as his hands cupped around me. The warmth of his fingers scared me at first as he picked me up, then my brother. The man walked to a car and as he opened the door I could feel the heat radiating out. He opened a cage door and placed my brother and I into it. A blanket laid the bottom the cage, the warmth of it felt like heaven to me. I closed my eyes, and thought of my mama hoping she was somewhere warm too.
A bright light shined through my eyelids as the felt cold on my feet. "Oh no! Am I out in the cold again?!" I cried. "And where is my brother?!" I began to cry, hoping he would hear me. I heard a faint whimper back from him but I had no clue where he was. Just knowing he was there made me feel all the better though. I wobbled around, trying to find somewhere warm to lay. I found a small blanket that wasn't much better then the cold, metal floor. I began to try to sleep when I heard a whine from my brother. I stood up and stumbled to the front of the cage, seeing a woman holding my brother. The women walked out of the room with him as a small group followed. My sight was blocked by a human standing in front of the cage. Her short hair was messy and her fingers stuck out of gloves. She placed her hand on the front of the cage, smiling. A slightly shorter women stood behind her, watching. The messy haired girl turned to the shorter women, saying something I couldn't understand. The messy haired girl left the room, returning with the same person who took my brother. The cage door opened and the brother thief grabbed me hard. "Hey! Lighten your grip!" I tried to tell her, but she never did. We walked into a room and the thief handed me to the girl. The moment the messy haired girl took me, I felt a sense of comfort.
The girl would not stop smiling, tears watered in her eyes as she looked at me. Time passed, but I knew I never wanted to leave her arms. It felt like it used to when mama was with us. When the thief returned she took me from the her. I looked at the girl and cried for her to take me back. But the thief didn't take me back to the cold cage, she instead took me and placed me in a smaller cage. I remember flying through the air, sliding back and forth. The bumpy ride stopped when I saw the girl. She grabbed onto the bottom of the cage and I began flying again. This time though, the ride was smooth and felt different. The warm air turned cold, but I wasn't afraid this time. She turned the cage towards her so I could see her. I stayed in there for a while as the two girls talked. "He can't keep the name. I'm sorry but Sonny just reminds me of Skirllex. It sounded like she said. After some other talk she looked at me in the eyes and smiled, "Killain." The girl said. Soon, the ride came to a halt and I was flying through the air one last time.
The first thing I heard was dogs barking. I was set on the floor, still in the cage, as three dogs surrounded the cage. As I looked out the side slots, I could see that the dogs were barley bigger then the cage itself! Soon the door opened and I was pulled out. The messy haired girl held onto me as I purred back to her. I wanted her to know I was happy and I loved her. Even though she isn't my real mama, I will always love her like one.

Sonny was adopted from a local humane society on October 23rd, 2012. I renamed him Killain after a character in The Chaos Walking Trilogy. Killain's story is different then most simply because he was only two weeks old when I brought him home. This puts his date of birth on October 9th, 2012. By law, a shelter has to make sure a pet weighs two pounds and is at least two months old. I knew when I first saw him that he was no way two months, and when I held him he was no way two pounds. A few days later, Killain was taken to the vets to get a check up. He weighed 1 pound and the vet said he was no older then 14 days. When I found this out I was more than furious, and what upset me more was that the humane society threatened to take Killain back if he wasn't neutered within the next four months. According to the ASPCA website, it is safe to spay/neuter your cat at eight weeks. But where I live, the nearest vet would only do it if the pet is older then 4 months. (They do this legal reasons) When February 1st, 2013 came around, the day he was supposed to be neutered, I received a note in the mail saying they will take him away if he isn't neutered within the next five days. Killain was just turning 3 months old at this point. I wrote an e-mail to the society and told them that I would need extra time since they have adopted out a pet that was only two weeks of age. I never received and e-mail back, and I never heard from them again. I did do the right thing an get him neutered when he was five months and three days old. (It took me an extra month due to financial reasons) Ever since I brought Killain home, he has been a lover, never leaving my side. To this day he still sleeps with me at night. He has grown up to be a very healthy cat. I would not trade him for the world. I worry about his future health though, since he was only drinking milk on and off as a kitten. As for now though, he is a happy, healthy cat. He still purrs every moment of the day, and 'talks' to us. I like to think that when he meows, or chirps as I like to call it, he is telling me how happy he is and that he loves me.
