Pyromania Background Story

Chapter 1 - Sanctuary

Victoria Warren lived a fiery life.

Ever since she was a child, she dreamed of having a romantic encounter with a charming, wealthy man, who would sweep her off her feet and give her a life of passion and luxury. Her heart burned for a better life and this is why she quickly accepted when a young man by the name of Edward Warren proposed to her amid a field of lilies and rose bushes.

She dreamed of the life she would have with Edward, who came from a wealthy family that had prospered through the steel industry. He wrote her poetry, painted pictures of her, and sang romantic songs whenever they were in the same room together. Her dream had finally come true.

This was, of course, until Edward’s father died. After Charles Warren was found shot in the chest by his business partner, Edward was forced to take over his father’s company, leaving Victoria alone and her dreams shattered.

Her affairs began around the same time that she and her husband moved into a beautiful new mansion, which Edward had deemed “Warren Manor”. It was an extravagant house, but Victoria often found herself sitting alone at the Dining Room table, talking to the walls. She had found her life of luxury, but her life of passion was missing. It started with Jesse Taylor, one of the many laborers that Edward had hired to take care of the farms which existed behind the mansion. She brought Jesse into the Master Bedroom, but a careless mistake led to Edward discovering a mysterious sock that did not belong to him. Victoria luckily thought of an excuse to explain the sock, but decided that she could not afford to slip again. This was when she began bringing her liaisons down into the Wine Cellar; a place where Edward rarely went, but she had become familiar with after long lonely nights alone.

But her affairs never lasted long. Edward Warren had become a feared man and no one wanted to take such a risk anymore. After a life of intense passion, Victoria now found it impossible to seduce a man. This is why she began to spend more time in the Wine Cellar- a place of memories… a place of intoxication to erase these memories.

This is also why when Victoria died shortly after of alcohol poisoning, her spirit decided to remain inside the Wine Cellar, so that she could forever be trapped inside the only place she had found passion.

Victoria watched as queso and User not found: michiko hid within the Wine Cellar, hoping to find the same sanctuary she had found so many years ago. Ironic, she thought, that they came to this house on a dare, fearing the ghosts who live inside, when in reality the true evil lies within the living.

“You aren’t safe here,” she said, remembering the mysterious person who had earlier set a trap within the room. But it was no use. They could not hear her.

Suddenly, she had a brilliant idea. She still had the ability to manipulate the thing that she had grown most attached to in her life– alcohol. One by one she moved the bottles of wine to form the words “BEWARE,” frightening queso and User not found: michiko. However, by the time they finally understood the message, it was too late. The Arsonist had snuck out from their hiding spot, locked the door to the Wine Cellar, and went back into hiding. Victoria faded away while she watched the two prisoners frantically try to open the door. As she disappeared, she wondered what kind of lives they had lived. Did they long for passion too? Who were they leaving behind that would now end up in a situation like hers?

Yes, Victoria Warren lived a fiery life.

And now she was about to watch a fiery death.

Chapter 2 - A Long Lost Diary

Language is a very powerful thing. It allows us to communicate our ideas, feelings, passions, and all the other emotions that help us to form relationships with one another. But over time, the sound of our words fades away from our memories and is erased from history, never to be heard again. This is why written language is even more powerful.

Edward Warren understood the value of literature and that is why if you looked through his library, you would find a vast assortment of novels, short stories, and essays on almost every topic imaginable to man. But there is one thing you would never find– poetry.

You see, Edward had a very sensitive heart. It was often difficult for him to restrain his emotions and he eventually developed a reputation for his fits of pure rage. Victoria, however, had seen the deeper meaning of his passion. She knew that within his exterior fury, there was an intense fervor of emotion. This is why she encouraged him to channel his feelings into poetry. It began with simple rhymes, but eventually developed into lengthy sonnets about his wife’s heavenly beauty, strengthening the love between them.

Unfortunately, the tragedy of his father’s death could not be relieved through poetry. Throughout his life, Edward had rarely known who his father really was. He only knew him through his prominent position in the steel industry. Therefore, when Charles Warren was murdered, Edward drowned himself in his father’s business because it was the only way he could continue to feel attached to the only parent he had while growing up.

Over time though, Edward began to realize the effect this had on Victoria as she gradually became silent and recluse. So Edward made a promise to himself that he would write her the most beautiful poem he had ever written in his life. Every time he finished, he would re-read it, only to find that it didn’t convey enough of his love for her, and so he would tear it up and try again. Finally, after weeks of working on his perfect poem, he gently folded it, placed it in an envelope, and tied it with a red ribbon.

His only problem was that he could not find his wife. He searched through the hallway, the dining room, even in the attic, but she was nowhere to be found. That is, until he noticed a light on in the Wine Cellar. He opened the hatch, climbed down into the dark, cold basement, and experienced the day that forever ruined his life.

Yes, the death of Victoria Warren had a huge impact on Edward Warren, and this is why after her funeral he burned every single one of his poems and vowed never to write another. This is why you would have never found a poem in Edward Warren's library.

However, if you looked hard enough, you would have found a carefully hidden diary placed behind one of the many shelves, you would have noticed that the lock on it had long rusted over and broke apart, and you would have skimmed through the dust-covered pages. The Arsonist almost came across this diary as they set up their trap, but fate determined that they would move the wrong bookcase.

And therefore, no one will ever see the diary, and no one will ever read about the life of a young woman who was verbally and physically abused. No one will ever read about the death threats that she constantly received and the constant fear she had. No one will ever know where she was the day she went missing and was never found again.

Chapter 3 - Breathe

If you asked Rachel Ann Warren to describe her final years alive, she probably would have responded with the word, “Withered”. You see, Rachel had always been fond of gardening and spent most of her time in the Greenhouse that Edward had built for his first wife, Victoria. She viewed flowers as a symbol of life, providing everyone with the air they need to breathe. As a result, she often compared herself to plants.

If you had met Rachel when she first moved to Braise Valley, she probably would have compared herself to a flower that had not yet bloomed. At this point, she was a shy, young woman who had come to the small town so that she could teach at the nearby schoolhouse. She loved children almost as much as she loved flowers and wanted to live a meaningful life that helped others. This is when she met Edward’s three daughters, Lucy, Hannah, and Rachel, her favorite student, who even shared the same name that she did.

Lucy had been so young at the time. She was a difficult child to teach due to her abundant supply of energy, but when she actually paid attention, she was a very bright girl. Hannah and Rachel, the two older daughters, had fallen silent though and found it very hard to focus on education. Rachel Ann, one of the few teachers at the time who was concerned for the futures of all of her students, decided to speak with the girls. This is when she found out the tragic event of their grandfather’s murder and the strain this had put in the marriage between their parents. Rachel Ann knew that this deeply upset Hannah and Rachel, so she decided to try to fix it before it began to affect Lucy as well. It was later that day that she brought a basket filled with blueberry sugar cakes to Warren Manor, so that she could try to amend the relationship that was devastating her three favorite students. However, to her disappointment, Edward was not home, so she decided to come back the next day.

The next morning, the three girls had never even shown up to school. While they may have never cared much for learning, they had always been to the schoolhouse on time no matter what. This time, Rachel Ann knew that something was truly wrong, so she rushed right over to Warren Manor after school had dismissed (bringing another basket of blueberry sugar cakes with her, of course). This is when she discovered that Victoria Warren had died from alcohol poisoning and was in the Wine Cellar when she had come to visit the previous day.

After that day, Rachel Ann decided to bring blueberry sugar cakes with her to Warren Manor every Saturday, when she visited Edward and his family to console them. Yes, Rachel Ann had a big heart and she couldn’t bear to leave the three girls alone without a mother. Furthermore, she had grown fond of Edward. She had grown to love the sensitive, poetic heart that Victoria had cultivated and secretly dreamed that Edward would one day feel the same way about her.

This is why a couple years later Rachel Ann would have described herself as a wilting flower not receiving enough sunlight. She had come for yet another visit to Warren Manor, only to be greeted by an exuberant Edward who joyously told her of his engagement to another woman named Sarah. Rachel Ann was crushed, but she was glad to see that Edward had moved forward with his life and that his three daughters, who had been greatly impacted by their mother’s death, would be able to have the motherly love and affection they needed.

But this was not the case. Sarah was a very ill woman. Edward knew this going into the marriage, but he loved her and did not care if he had to devote the rest of his life to taking care of her. Rachel Ann wondered if Sarah ever felt the same way though. She was a bitter woman, who showed no interest in his three daughters and very little interest in Edward himself. She expected everyone in the mansion to cater to her needs and even requested that Rachel Ann make her a special strawberry sugar cake simply because she could not stand the taste of blueberries.

Rachel Ann decided at this point that she could no longer linger around Edward. She had to move on and make a life of her own, so she left Warren Manor that day and did not look back.

That is, until two more tragedies hit the Warren household and Edward was only left with Lucy as his sole child. Rachel Ann was devastated about the loss of her two former students and so she began visiting again, bringing her baked goods, with a special one made for Sarah. Edward and Sarah and lived a good life together, but Rachel Ann saw that her health was deteriorating more and more each time she visited. Years after helping Edward take care of Sarah, his second wife finally died and Rachel Ann went back to consoling Edward, but this time he lived alone in Warren Manor. Lucy had grown up and moved far away from Braise Valley.

During this time, Rachel Ann would have described her life as a flower that had finally been given water and come back to life. She had never found love again after leaving Edward, and now that his second wife was gone, Edward realized just how much she had been there for him. They were both aged and nearing the end of their lives at this point, so he did not hesitate when he asked her to marry him. Edward and Rachel Ann lived a happy, brief marriage, but Edward died shortly after and Rachel Ann was left alone in the enormous mansion.

This is when she began to spend all of her time in the Greenhouse, among the plants that she loved so much. She looked at her reflection in the glass walls of the Greenhouse and saw how withered she truly had become. But her misery did not last long, for something happened one night as Rachel Ann was alone in the Greenhouse. Somehow, a fire had started. No one knew who started or how it had happened, but the flammable plants quickly trapped Rachel Ann in the Greenhouse and ate away all of the oxygen.

That night, Rachel Ann suffocated alone in the Greenhouse. Her writhing body fell to the floor and remained there. Withered.
