A young boy so obsessed with the stars and magic that he mutates himself into a winged creature.

Later, his mother will blame his father for the way he takes to the sky.
But it is not later. It is now, and he is young and he loves his father and the beat up, half functional telescope they peer through every night. It is as serious a ritual as his mother's watching of her gossip shows, and there are no buts. Every night, at seven thirty on the dot, they assemble on the hilltop and gaze through the glass into a sea of stars.
He does not know what he is looking at. His father rattles away the names of the constellations, the stories behind them. But he does not hear his father, not really. He sees the stars, and feels them pulsing as if they are in his blood. That is what matters to him.
