Background Info
Kaje is a member of a race called Taserans, and one of the few free survivors of his world when it was invaded by another race seeking to mine it of its resources. His world is a little place called Tasera. The planet's surface is roughly 80% water and 20% land, and of that landmass only about 40% is actually inhabitable. The major continent of Liom, though fairly rugged and mountainous, has a number of decently fertile green valleys that harbor the inhabitants, the Taserans. The rest of the landmass is uninhabitable due to the large amounts of volcanic activity, poor soil qualities, and generally below freezing temperatures.
The Taserans themselves are a somewhat human looking race. Their basic body shape is indeed that of a human, though there are several physical differences that set them apart. For starters, compared to human's five fingers the Taserans have only four (three fingers and a thumb,) their fingers are also abnormally long and end in fairly sharp claws that need to be filed down every once in a while. The hair atop their heads has generally more of a fur-like quality, and is usually confined to tones of greys, blacks, and browns. Their ears also sit atop their heads rather than at the sides, the shape and size bringing to mind a rather wolfish view. Continuing with the wolf-like traits they also have a rather long and bushy tail extending from their backsides. Their arms have also developed into wings of sorts, a unique muscular structure allowing their feathers to remain limp and pliable until they are needed for flight. The feathers first start growing in at age six, and are flight capable around the age of ten. Due to their ability to fly their bone density has diminished to the point of becoming hollow, much like bird bones, so they must be conscious of any overly strenuous activity that may cause them to break a bone. Oddly enough, Taseran blood is highly corrosive to magical materials, resulting in almost complete dissolvement of any magical item that comes in contact with it.
Due to the low availability of stable land the various Taseran tribes have been known to war with one another for months on end, though these disputes usually fizzle out once the really cold months come around. Due to this, weapons training is mandated for both genders, starting from the age of seven and continuing until age twenty-two. Training is regulated by one of the five neutral training schools; Ghaine to the south, Yermini to the north, Asreld to the east, Momary to the west, and Belest in the center. While weapons training is mandated, the training of magic is pretty much never seen, due to the fact that Taseran bodies are ill-suited for magic use and defense. Against enemies that yield such powers they are at a severe disadvantage. Taserans are by no means a technological race, not having developed spaceship, combustion, electricity, or flight technology or even been off their own world. Only with the invasion of their world have they begun to realize the existence of worlds beyond their own, though at the rate they are being killed off and enslaved they may very well never set their sights on any.
At a defining point in a Taseran's life they may transform into a Nirol, a well muscled wolf of sorts with three tails and a large pair of wings sprouting from the area of their shoulder blades. Still able to communicate with the Taserans, Nirols are treated with immense respect and are often consulted in times of great turmoil. Brought about by times of extreme emotional or physical pain, transformations have been known the occur in Taserans as young as six or never. Once transformed, Nirols are afflicted with severe feelings of wanderlust and often head straight into the mountains, joining one of the numerous packs that roam there. Though some Taserans are able to switch between the two forms at will, individuals who can are few and far between.
Kaje himself is a Taseran male, and at eighteen years of age he's just starting to near the end of his formal training at Yermini. With crystal blue eyes and and a fine, light brown fur he's fairly popular with the female members of the school, even more so since it was discovered that he was able to switch between his Nirol and Taseran forms at will. He, however, prefers to have nothing to do with them. Calm and collected, he's been trained to use a spear-like weapon similar to a glaive and a modified chained sickle of sorts similar to a kusarigama. He's very protective of his little sister, and his strict adherence to his own honor and loyalty codes are both his strong and weak points. During the last large scale attack he was injured and knocked unconscious, unknowingly transported to a neutral planet where he is currently trying to etch out a living and return to his homeworld.
