Name: Kai or Little Bear
Age: 7 at time of accident; currently 18
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 190lbs

Current living arrangements: His foster parents Jodi and Geoff. Kai has lived with them since he was nine years old.
Mental status: Schizophrenia. Getting better with medication; foster parents pulled Kai out of therapy at the age of eleven.
Other Comments: Extremely aloof and unpredictable with behavior. Curious and naive. Possible learning disabilities.

Kai enjoys being outside, flowers, animals and writing. He is easily frightened and because of this needs to have a family that is peaceful and understanding of his somewhat unresponsive nature. His grasp on the concept of personal boundaries is heavily lacking, and his curiosity runs most of what he does throughout his day.

**NOTE** Exercise extreme caution when interacting with Kai; he has been known to lash out quite violently when triggered. It is still unknown what causes the tantrums, but awareness of the mood or atmosphere changes in attitude will keep all parties safe. If you have any questions, feel free to call the number for the psychiatric ward that has been attached. The staff there are very familiar with Kai and will be able to assist you. We wish you the best of luck...please take very good care of him.
Kai rolled over in his bed and turned off his bedside light. A migraine pushed it's way to the surface, and the soft 'thud' of it in his ears only made things worse. He clutched his pillow tight and threw it over his head. There was nothing but muddled memories and fuzzy play-backs of his childhood in his head, and he wished adamantly that they'd just go away and leave him be. Kai groaned and screamed into his pillow. The nightly harassment of his memories was getting too much for him to handle. He sat up, sweating and breathing heavily, and he placed his hand over his chest. After a few deep breaths he reached over to his side-table and grabbed the bottle of pills. A few tumbled out of the container and stared him in the face, their pale cream color seemingly glowing in the feint light of the night.

"Sh, you don't have to take those, you have me, remember?" a familiar voice said at the edges of his mind. "Go away. I don't want to talk to you right now" Kai responded back.

His room was completely empty, save for his voice and the moonlight.

"You don't play with me like you used to. Why don't we play anymore?" the voice was louder, no longer at the fringes of his mind, but loud and clear at the front line of his thoughts.

"It's because I'm too old for you now, cat. I'm sorry. Plus doctor says you're no good for me." Kai stared into blank space, his eyes adjusted to the faded light of his room, His sight lost focus for a moment, then fixed itself, and before him stood a small, silver-blue cat. It swished it's tail impatiently and eyed him before getting into his lap.

"We can't play because of the pills, you know. You do know, don't you?"

"Please, just go away. You know this is all your fault." Kai rolled over to face his wall and tears began rolling down his face. The memories began flooding back again, causing an overwhelming feeling of guilt and remorse to build up in his body. He began to cry, his body softly bouncing with each audible whimper.

The time was around Kai's seventh year of life. He was out playing in the garden, as usual, with his whimsical cat-friend right by his side. He draped flowers over himself and the cat, and giggled as he romped around in the soft soil. Kai loved to be outside more than anything in the world, especially when he was allowed to play in the garden. The smells, textures and colors excited him, and he wanted nothing more than to be surrounded by the paradise forever. He knelt down and kissed the cat on the head, which stared back at him with an almost conniving grin on its face.

From inside the house, Kai's mother watched him in the garden. Her lips were pursed with concern as she witnessed her son talking to the vacant air again. She called out to her husband, who came in and placed his hands on her shoulders.

"Honey...I know what the psychiatrist said, but this is just too odd. He should be making real friends, not talking to the air!" Kai's mother stared at her husband with great worry on her face.

"There's not much we can do about it. I know you want things to go better for him, but all we can do right now is let him get it out of his system. Besides, didn't you have an imaginary friend when you were little?" he embraced his wife. She continued to stare out of the window.

"I had my dollies, yes...not an imaginary friend. It's a cat, even! I knew the difference between reality and fantasy, Kai doesn't. What if there's something really wrong with him?" Kai's mother broke the embrace and walked to the back door. She opened it and a whimper escaped her lips. She stared out at her son as he continued to talk to nothing, with a very bewildered look on his face.

"Sweetheart, come here. Let him spend his time outside. You know how much he likes it. Let's get dinner started and give him some more time. Things will get better, you'll see, and then you won't have to worry yourself sick so much." Kai's father led his wife away from the door and towards the kitchen, where they'd soon begin dinner.

"Cat, I...I can't do that. I love mommy and daddy. Wouldn't that hurt them?" Kai had his face twisted up with a look of shock and confusion.

"No, they want to take you away from me. I listen to them when they don't think we're looking. They want to take you away from me and the garden. You don't want that, do you?"

"Well, no...I don't think I want that. I love you too though, cat. How come they want to take you away?"

"They don't know we're best friends. The doctor doesn't either. You know that. You do know, don't you?" the cat had a slight grin on its face as it paced back and forth in front of the small boy.

"I didn't know that...but why? I can tell them we are friends forever, then it wouldn't matter! Mommy likes it when I am happy. Daddy too. I want them to be happy as well!"

"NO." the cat yelled back at the boy. Kai jumped and fell on his butt from his crouching position. He looked more scared than anything as his friend had a snarl across his face. Just as quickly as it was there, it was gone, and the cat sat with a passive look on his face.

"Cat...you're scaring me..." Kai began to cry. He poked out his bottom lip and sniffed. He didn't want to do what cat was telling him to. He felt uneasy and shifted, playing with the flowers in his hair.

"If you want to stay friends forever, you have to do this. Okay?" the cat flicked it's tail and waited for a response, a menacing grin pricking at the corners of its mouth.

"I...okay. Mommy and Daddy won't be mad...right?"

"No. Not at all." the cat replied as he disappeared. Kai looked around frantically for his friend. He didn't want to do it alone, but he wanted his mother and father to be happy, and he and cat to stay best friends forever.
