Jin-sun, goes by Jin
"Fireman"

setting: Jin’s a character in a post-apocalyptic world, specifically a zombified one where society has partially rebuilt in small zones across the country. World’s been zombified for 20-ish years, so the ‘wilds’ have started taking over the cities again. Trees, grass, cracked pavement, all that fun shit.

appearance: He’s half Korean, half caucasian. He’s 5’9 and thin. Brown, almond shaped eyes. His hair is black, and he keeps it short on the sides (like half an inch long at most) and longer in the middle, similar to a mohawk/fauxhawk style even though there’s not really any product in the apocalypse to make it stand. Even though its down, longest strands in the front come down between his eyebrows to the start of the bridge of his nose. In the back it comes down about an inch and a half below the base of his skull. It’s not always exact; he does it himself so you can’t really blame him. He has a boyish look to him and tends to look younger than he is, which is 22-23. He has a scar at the corner of his mouth (his left) at an angle so it points towards his temple. It’s not very long, just long enough to be noticeable. He also has a slash across his left shoulder, horizontal with the bottom on the left of his shoulderblade and ends just short of his spine at the top right of his right shoulder blade and another that follows his left pelvic bone.

personality: He’s a bit of a jokester, especially when it comes the topic of death. He chooses to make light of those who have died rather than dwell on them. Despite his attempts he has horrible nightmares about the deaths of those he cared about, and tends to react violently when awoken. He’s a very good listener, even though sometimes he doesn’t seem like he’s paying attention. He’s very detail oriented, and is a skilled artist, often drawing landmarks and things he finds important and people. Jin tends to get extremely attached to people and, despite all his bravado, when one of his companion’s leave he gets extremely terrified and anxious. He does what he can to get along with strangers, but he’s not above stepping on some toes if he has to. Like most people of this world, he can kill if needed.

quirks: Jin can’t read. His mother spent so much time working on teaching him survival skills in a world that was dead that she didn’t think it would be important to teach him reading in writing. Instead he draws people, and symbols he associates with them or places. Other survival skills some are lacking he excels in, however. Hunting, trapping, swimming, starting fires, all taught to him by his mother. He much prefers rooftops when outside safe houses. Or, if he can, to be in the forests, where his mother prefered to keep him when she was alive.

weapons: His main weapon is a M24 sniper rifle, as well as a fireman’s axe (the kind with the axe head and the fun pokey bit on the back). He also carries a knife. When he has access to one he’ll carry a handgun but he generally tosses them as soon as they’re out of ammo since he tries not to be in the close quarters they require.

background: This is a work in progress. c:

Brief history: Mom was Korean-American and was a nurse who fell in love with a man working on his residency who had an obsession with camping and surviving out in the forest for periods of time. They had their first child about two years after meeting, their second (Jin) five years later. World was zombified three years later.

His parents had split a year after Jin's birthday. When the world went south his mom took them to a small cabin her family owned by a lake. They survived there for several years until they finally went to one of the quarantine zones. They got info that his brother and father might still be alive in Seattle, so they went north. The quarantine zone here had been overrun, and while trying to escape the city she got caught inside a house after Jin made it out the window. He ended up shooting her and putting her out of her misery.

Outside of Seattle Jin came in contact with a man named Darwin and his daughter Amelia. They stayed together, travelling from safe zone to safe zone until Darwin died two years later. A year later, at 16, he and Amelia met another orphaned teenager called Nathan. The trio traveled together from safe zone to safe zone, never staying in one place for too long until Amelia and Nathan died when Jin was 21. After that he just continued to wander with little purpose, mostly sticking to forests and the suburbs rather than venturing into the more dangerous cities.

His mother’s name was June. Both of her parents moved from Korea to America before they had her. She was a working as a surgery nurse in a hospital, and he was finishing up his residency.
