"Mommy, can I shake it? Please?" the voice called out, slightly muffled causing Kalispera to wince and move over to the side of the cave she was hiding in.

"Please? Just before I go to bed?" the voice whined. There was a pause but then Kalispera could feel herself being lifted in the air, closing her eyes she held onto the groves she had pecked out of the stone.

"Please be quick, please be quick." she thought to herself as her entire world was suddenly turned upside down. The cranking noises started and she counted each turn. "One, two, three, four..." bracing herself for the tremors that were to start any minute she squeezed her eyes shut even tighter.

Her world started to shake and jolt, her body lifting and slamming against the cave wall repeatedly until the voice of reason was heard, "Come now, that is enough. Set it down and let's see if that pretty lain comes out." before her world was righted and practically slammed back to the ground.

Taking a few deep breaths she let go of the wall and tried to steady her nerves. Once her wings stopped shaking she took a few steps towards the mouth of the cave. "Kalispera, you've really gotten yourself in trouble this time." she told herself before she stepped into the glow from the outside world. She flapped her wings a few times, as if checking to make sure they still worked, before launching herself into the air and doing a few circles around the top of the mountain.

After she realized nothing had changed she started her daily pattern of weaving around the trees and under the branches, much to the enjoyment of the boy who had shaken her. Once the music started to slow, she landed, bowed and made her way back into her cave.

It had been two years almost to the day since she was locked in this prison. She wanted to make an extra buck out on the streets and was caught. Her punishment, thanks to Maleria, was a life encased in this glass dome of hell. She peeked out of her cave again and saw the boy had left, but the larger woman was still there. She rushed to the top of the dome, pounding her wings and beak against it, "Let me out! Please let me out!" she cried out in desperation. But there was no hope, for she could hear their voices, but they could not hear hers.

After relentlessly pounding and pecking for nearly an hour an exhausted Kalispera fell to ground and curled up in the snow, weeping for the life she had not only left behind, but was forced to live day in and day out. As she pulled her wing over her face to block out the light from the outside world the faint strains of a Christmas carol could be heard, "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow."
