Once fierce and mighty, the beast had roamed the skies for four hundred and seventy two years — a grand body of black scales and golden horns, each breath an act of power. But power that only ever grows is prone to end in the illusion of sanctity and one might do well to remember: there is always someone out there that is stronger.
For you see, the touch of fire may burn but the touch of frost too, can set your skin ablaze.

"You dare taunt me, Dragon?" The Witch had cackled. The dragon’s chest heaved heavily, its scales rustling. Then a spark in the back of its throat ignited and a city of thousands had burned.
All because the dragon believed it was eternal. All because the dragon believed that no one could touch it through the flames.
And it had paid dearly for that illusion.

In the old tomb on the top of the mountain, there lay, indeed, the ruins of a dragon. Not the grand, night-colored dragon from the old tales, but one that had long since been blinded and mutilated; its obsidian scales torn from the skin. It was a silent dragon, buried underneath statues and coins and trinkets of gold—a touch the beast knew well, a touch it understood and trusted. A touch that served as a grim reminder of what it once had been.
You'd do well to listen to your elders and never enter the tomb, that much is true. You see, the dragon can only smell you. To dragons, the scent of humans and witches are the same. If your scent were to wake it, it might confuse you with the memory of that heinous voice:
"Do you want to see me turn those lovely scales into ash?"
And it would set the both of you ablaze.
