UNDER CONSTRUCTION (pardon the mess)
Many, many moons before my birth, there was a great war among the tribes of my species, the Elvenox. A war about color, for the color of fur meant everything, it defined you and all that you were -- as the sun was the most worshipped deity among the tribes.Colors bright like those of the sun, meant nobility, like whites, yellows, reds and oranges.
Colors that held a darker shade, like that of the moon, meant commoner, like grays, blacks, blues and purples.
The war that raged all those moons ago held one purpose and one purpose only: to eradicate those of darker color, for the commoners were no longer wanted by those of nobility. Many suns rose and many moons fell before the war was over and many of both colors died, but the purpose of the war had been successful and none of the darker color survived.
Those of nobility from the various tribes who had survived the war converged and made one magnificent city to live in, Nal Eshara. However, they never anticipated that those of darker color could still be birthed from those of nobility. Once that was discovered, a ruling was made by the council, which stated the following:
Any female fawn birthed with the colors of the moon shall be slain upon first breath.
Any male fawn birthed with the colors of the moon shall be forced into slavery, to work a lifetime for those of noble color.
Those of darker color had seemed to be forgotten by those of nobility, for one had not been born for many moons, and there had never been a hybrid of light and dark colors...until me, for I bore grey and a unique shade of blue, both colors of the commoner, but I also bore white, a color of nobility. Now the council must decide my fate.
Entry I: After my mother birthed me, I was immediately moved to a cellar in the council chamber -- no one was to see me. I’m not sure how long I’ve remained in the cellar for; there are no windows, and therefore no way for me to tell time passing…other than the hunger and thirst I feel. Luckily, if you can consider it luck, someone brings water and bread to me twice a day, however all I have ever seen of whoever brings my food was a fluffy black tail, which meant they must be a slave for the nobles…or a different type of creature.
Entry II: I woke up with a startle; someone was coming down the stairs into the cellar. As I looked up, I saw an Elvenox of the brightest yellow approach the room I was kept in. He must be someone of importance, with that pure and bright of a color I thought to myself as he approached, sitting up to prepare myself for the encounter.
He looked me up and down before he spoke and I almost felt ashamed as he looked over my fur, like the strange blue was some kind of fatal sickness that needed to be cleansed and then I cursed myself for having such a thought. Fur color meant everything to my species, but it would not define me.
“It is time for your fate to be decided by the council, follow me” he said harshly as he unlocked the door, turning quickly, as if he needed to distance himself before I began to follow him.
Entry III: The council room was large and had magnificent bright colors, with mosaic glass covering a large amount of the room to allow the sun deity to shine in. I looked up at the council for the first time, which was made up of five Elvenox. The one in the center pierced at me with such harsh eyes, I almost looked away – his voice rang out with a deepness I had never heard before “Your fate has been decided, first and foremost, you shall be known as Murmur, for you are to be indistinct in our society” stated the first Elvenox matter-of-factly, coming to an end of his sentence with a loud grunt, as if he was displeased. Then the last Elvenox on the left began to speak in a much softer tone, “Luck has shone down upon you Murmur, for your fate is to live out your life as a slave for the Royal Family here in Nal Eshara; you will be escorted there now” and without even a blink, I was being pushed forward down to an underground tunnel towards, I assumed, the Royal Families house.
Entry IV: CONTINUE HERE.
Murmur will be a maid to the princess, who is one year younger than her brother, the prince. She remains in hidden tunnels per the Queens orders and only associated with those of the common color twice a day for meals, though she is even shunned by them due to her interesting fur. Eventually, she and the prince will fall for one another and the previous ruling regarding fur color will be destroyed, those of the common colors will be freed and a new era started in the city.
