There are many things that happen for a reason.

Humanity has always strove to change what they thought as an unreasonable life. They wish for only good things to happen. For their dreams to come true. Thus, they invent luck dolls, hope pendants. But for what? They are dolls, nothing more, aren't they?

The answer to that question may not be so simple.

Luck itself has always been worshiped as a deity. It is given its own personality, temples, shrines. So many cultures look up to luck. And as such, a lot of superstitions is built upon luck and fortune.

Take, for example, the tale of the lucky pincushion.

There once existed a pincushion that was rumored to hold the answer to the trials of life. It was an item of worship, and legend stated that it was responsible for a great many people being able to succeed in all their endeavors in life. Each and every person could stick a pin in it. There was no discrimination. The catch? It could only be done once in their life. The pincushion would apparently appear once it deemed a person fit of tacking a pin onto its body. The pin would then pulse and change color, giving the person their answer.

Green meant the person's goal lay just around the corner. Blue meant not quite; some more effort may need to be given. Yellow meant that the person was still far off. And red meant that it would never come true.

A lot of people grew depressed as their dreams never came true. They grew still more depressed when their results from the pincushion gave them the same answer.

Hope always seemed to surround people before they pushed in a pin, and this continuous cycle of hope fed the little doll with a lot of hope indeed. And curious things always happen when one has hopes.

The pincushion became a sentient being. It was aware of its surroundings. It knew that it could manipulate the feelings of others just by changing the color of the pin. The color-changing was something that could not be explained. Perhaps it was true magic. But whatever it was, the colors of the pin always told the truth.

And this is where the legend dissolves into educated guesswork and straining memory, for what happened next was not known by too many people.

The pincushion realized that it was causing a lot of unnecessary sadness and anger. It began to sympathize. Though it could not give luck, it could give answers, and the pincushion happened to be able to tell at a glance what sort of color a specific person would bring out in a pin. It resolved only to allow those that it was certain could achieve their dreams to stick a pin into it.

An important lesson was learned here: there are those that can predict destiny, even perhaps those that can bring people's spirits plummeting or soaring with a single sentence...

But only you may hold the power to can change your own fate.
