Deer

She was just a deer living in the forest. Although she was a fast runner, she was slightly slower than her peers. Hunters often chased her for longer than normal, causing them to lose their way. If they made it back out, the hunters would unfailingly blame it on the witch deer of the forest.

She lead us astray!

Witch

Rumours in the village were that her true form was only seen at night. Her coat shimmered blue and green like the sea in the starlight. But she was a witch; a witch who tricked people into wandering the forest for eternity.
Fear won over, and soon hunting parties set out specifically to kill the deer witch. But she was just a regular deer. And as with any regular deer, it was only a matter of time until the hunters got her.

And they did.

But no matter how hard they searched, they could not find her body. Many hunters were lost in the search for the missing trophy.

Even in death she lead us astray!

Stars

The forest guardian watched as the hunters pursued their innocent prey. When she fell, they called to the skies for help. The stars answered, and in darkness they cloaked her until the hunters' quest is forgotten.
It will be many moons before she is spotted again, but differently this time. Young children who have been lost for days return to their families, speaking of a strange fairy with the body of a deer and the colours of the sea. She never appears for long, but instead leaves behind a trail of stars that show the way back home. They name her after the stars, and leave behind offerings of sweets for returning their children.
