Parabatai

A parabatai is a pair of Shadowhunter Warriors who fight together as lifelong partners, bound together by oath, regardless of their gender. Their bond is not reflected only in their closeness and willingness to lay down their lives for one another in every aspect of life and until their death.

It is not a requirement of being a Shadowhunter to have a Parabatai and it is not common practice. To find someone that you can share your soul with is very few and far between and is not something that is taken lightly.

You can only complete the oath with your fellow Shadowhunter until you reach your 19th Birthday. Once you get to that birthday, then the time has passed to complete your oath.
