Kusanagisan represents the memory of a dearly beloved pet snake I had named Gambit. He was my first reptile and he was like a child to me. A creamsicle colored corn snake that honestly acted more like a dog than a snake half the time. Very affectionate, loved to be rubbed under his chin and on the top of his head, and fell in love with everyone he met. Our pet Schnauzer, Sally, was one of his closest friends. She would take great care in making sure he behaved himself, and always wanted to sit by his tank to keep watch over him. Eventually though, Gambit decided eating was not for him. No matter what Ooki and I did as parents, he just wouldn't eat. Eventually one morning, I came home to him laying dead along his the edge of his tank. My heart sank, eyes filled with tears, and I felt such a strong pain of sadness and loss. I had never lost a pet like that before, and it didn't feel like just a 'pet' died. It felt like my beloved child had passed on me, and it hurt. For about an hour, I remember just holding tightly to his little cold body, waiting for him to just wake up and hiss at me, telling me it was a joke. Later on that day, Ooki and I went to a little spot near our apartment and gave him a nice funeral. We made the place look really pretty, cleaning up the dead leaves, drawing some hearts on rocks, and even wrote his name somewhere, so that Gambit's name would live on, etched in stone. Kusanagi means the world to me, like a little reminder that my hissling is watching somewhere behind me, flapping cute little wings and trying not to lose his halo. <3
