Alteration:The action or process of altering or being altered

The Tattoo shop is well lit, almost blinding. Every surface is meticulously clean, and the only noise is the soft music playing from a set of speakers and the electric whirring of the tattoo needle. The client who has just entered is huge, muscular, intimidating. He is an enforcer for a well known criminal family, and he looks the part. He ambles towards the back of the shop where a much skinnier man is getting the finishing touches on a chest tattoo.

"Hey, Alt." The man grumbles. The fellow in the chair whimpers slightly. The tattoo artist glances up, brows drawn in annoyance.

"Ricky." He replies. "You're early. And you know better than to walk back here while I'm working." Too late the hulking man remembers, and draws back through the doorframe. Alteration sighs as he puts the needle down, cleans the tattoo and wraps it.

"You're all done." He tells the first client, "let's get you checked out at the register."

Having paid, the man slinks out through the door, and Alt faces Ricky in the waiting room.

"Sorry about that, Art," The hulking man mumbles, "I forgot." Alt is still a little annoyed, and the man can tell. The artist pulls a fresh stick of gum from his jacket pocket and starts chewing.

"What was it you wanted? A retouch or something?" The man nods and rolls up his sleeve.

"Yeah." Alt leans in for a better look. The tattoo is small and crudely done, clearly a do-it-yourself skull and crossbones, and is faded and smeared under the skin.

"Freakin'...Jeez, babe, that's crap work. I can't believe you've been walkin' around with this thing. Okay, have a seat and I'll see what I can do."

Ricky complies and, noting the perfect swirl of planets and constellations that mark Alteration's own skin, knows he is in good hands.

Alteration, called Alt, is a well-known tattoo artist and body modifier. He works with a large clientele, though predominantly deals with members of various criminal organizations, namely The Family, as well as other bitter, down-on-their-luck persons. Despite this, he is generally cheerful and upbeat. He only becomes irritated when people are particularly clingy or can't seem to mind their own business. As far as vices go, he doesn't drink, swear or smoke. He can be a bit of a loner outside of the shop, although it must be noted that he spends a considerable amount of time with Jackie, the next-in-line to be heir of The Family.
