Bad Endings

"It was so good, until it wasn't"

Have you ever watched a movie or read a book and thought: "This is amazing!" And then, you get to the end and it all blows up in your face? Yup. I LOVE those kinds of endings don't you?!! You'll live in the forest, I'll live in the city. You died and now I'm going to jump off of a cliff. And of course I'm going to ride my bike down a steep hill with my eyes closed and not hold on to the handle bars. Obviously!

All of those totally "unwanted", "unexpected", and "what the heck!" endings were all my doing! I'm considered an expert don't you know. Writers come to me saying they don't know how to finish their story and ask for my advice. And boy do I give it to them! Your character got away from you? Just kill them off! Doesn't matter if the book is in first person. You'll feel better for it! You want to show character growth? Kill off their favorite pet! You want your characters to be happy but not too happy? The "You'll live here and I'll live there and we'll meet once in a while" scenario is the best!! Everyone loves it!

I love those twisting, turning, “all of your hopes and dreams are exploding” endings to books. They just make me wiggle and squee with so much joy!! And movies! There is so much awesome you can do with movies! Especially if they’re based off a book! It doesn’t get much better than that! Though, those live action anime are pretty close…
