Scampi was very young when he realised that fish is probably the most disgusting food ever. All his friends and family gobbled them up like there was no tomorrow. He just couldn't understand it. They smell terrible and taste even worse. He only ate them because he was hungry, and there didn't appear to be any alternative.

Scampi discovered his love of blueberries by accident. He had been trying to scoot along on his stomach like he'd seen his parents do many a time. Evidently it wasn't as easy as it looked. Scampi had slid sideways, rolled onto his back and then landed in a heap at Mrs Pelly's feet. She was so surprised she dropped the basket she was carrying, and a large bunch of blueberries fell out right in front of Scampi. He smelled them instantly and thought it was the most heavenly thing ever. After many apologies to Mrs Pelly, she agreed to let Scampi try a few blueberries, and he was hooked from that moment on. Mrs Pelly was rather surprised,as the blueberries had been a treat intended for her pet arctic rabbit.

His mother distinctly remembered that day, as Scampi had waddled home faster than usual and announced to the family that he would no longer be eating fish, and that only blueberries would do. Needless to say, they all thought he was joking, but after a few days, it was evident he was deadly serious. It became quite a talking point among the penguin fraternity, and even to this day, Scampi is often a topic of interest within the colony. The penguin who hates fish - and loves blueberries. Crazy....
