Silence.

The golden silence. Moments before the store opens, seconds before the usual business. Then will come the herd of hollow faces, glancing emptily at his wares as they reach for the same newspapers and cigarettes, paying the same fares, then bidding the same, stagnant good byes.

This moment, the flicker somewhere after the strike and before the light of a thin flame: a matchstick. Bliss. Tension.

Or is this relief?

Silence fills his head as they rove through, idling at the small convenience store between desk work and meetings. Conversation becomes the hum of static.

He muses to himself as the day progresses, the sun sparing it's light with him through the bright advertisements plastered over the store windows. His own stained glass. He inhales deeply, trying to fill himself with the soft light.asfa

Another customer. This time, a regular. The young kumos asks for a pack of cigs, grabs the daily news. At the last minute, he throws a lighter in the mix, picking his colour hastily. No receipt (as usual), a rushed "thank you": a busy young man, in the ripe of life and blissfully unaware. Out he goes, in comes another. Newspaper, egg salad sandwich: another regular, a cheerful old lasirus who comments on the weather.

On the day goes. The static becomes inane.

The static becomes insane.

He laughs loudly, abruptly, at his own joke, startling the endeavor that had been reading a tabloid quietly to herself.
