Vergilius is named for Publius Vergilius Maro, author of the Aeneid, who has a character cameo as Dante's guide through Hell in Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, specifically the Inferno.

I originally wanted to name him something cute and Japanese, but an intellectual name seemed a better choice, plus I enjoyed reading the Aeneid in Humanities 101 x3
