Smudge and George
I'm a cat person. Always have been, always will be!
I grew up with cats. I've had cats for as long as I can remember. To me, they are my angels. There is something very comforting about being around a cat, especially when they're purring!
Did you know that cat purrs can heal you? Yeah! According to Purrfect Post:
Purring releases endorphins in cats, and it can do the same thing in humans, too. Lowered stress hormones are helpful for healing, lowering blood pressure, and helping people cope with illness, too. Cat purring has been shown to fall between 25 and 140 Hz.
There is science behind why cat purrs can help heal people, but I believe it is spiritual too. My cats have helped me through the worst times of my life by supporting me and loving me when I didn't even love myself.
I have two cats now, named Smudge and George. They are my best friends, and I want to tell you all about them!
Smudge
I got Smudge in 2015.
I was in a very deep depression, and I was without a cat for a couple of months. At the time, I was living with my sister because I didn't have anywhere else to go. My health was at an all time low, and I was very thin and sickly.
My sister noticed that I was struggling deep in my heart, so one time I got home from working thirds in the morning to a kitty sitting on my bed!
Smudge was a rescue from a bad situation. His rescuers were from Kitty City Rescue and Adoption Center, and they adopted him out to my sister.
From the jump, he was very loving and outgoing. He would sit on my lap and watch Grey's Anatomy with me for hours on end, purring and giving me snuggles throughout the marathon. To this day, he still gets excited when he hears the theme song!
Smudge is a very outgoing and excited boy. He is an elder cat now, but he still acts like a kitten. His favorite things are Friskies wet food, cardboard boxes, and lofi hip hop music.
I firmly believe that Smudge changed my life. He saved my life. When we became best friends, my mental health got better. I sought after professional care for my mental health, and Smudge was rooting for me the whole way there.
Smudge is a good boy with a big heart and a bright spirit. Without him, I don't know where I would be.
George
I got George in 2016.
George was a community cat, and because of where I lived, the animal shelter released him into my area because it is densely populated.
One day, we heard a kitty crying outside. When we opened the door, it was a big black cat crying for help. My sister has a big heart, and opened the door for George to come in.
He didn't waste a second.
George darted inside to get out of the summer heat, and he was very scared. He cried all night long after we got him, but he didn't want to go back outside. With a lot of coaxing and familiarizing, after a few weeks, George came out of his shell. He began to show his true self, which is a patient, loving, and cuddly boy.
George purrs really loud. He will start to purr if you even sit next to him, or look at him and slow blink to him. Me and my boyfriend joke that George is a "momma's boy" because he follows me everywhere!
George has a unique sense of telling when something is wrong. He knows when someone is wounded, either physically or in their heart. He will sit next to someone for as long as it takes for them to feel better, purring away and giving snuggles.
George is the most patient cat you will ever meet. He doesn't mind hugs or snuggles, even for a long time. His favorite things are fleece blankets, bread, and taking naps with his momma!
Me and George understand each other on a deep level. With just a look, he knows what I am thinking and he is my very best friend. I would be lost without him.
My angels, my heroes...
As far as getting along, I am pleased to say that Smudge and George are the best of friends!
When Smudge and George met, Smudge ran up to George and started giving him kisses. George was taken aback at first, but eventually learned that no matter what, Smudge is going to love him! Now, George loves him equally as much.
They rarely fight, except if they are playing together. Sometimes, they fight over who is going to sit in the box near the heater, but other than that, they share everything with each other with grace and love.
Smudge and George are inseparable. When one of them is sick, the other will stand guard and watch over him. They stick up for each other, and hang out constantly.
I think that Smudge and George are brother soulmates. There is no love more powerful than cats' love for each other. Except maybe our love for them!
My godsends.
