"You're so impulsive! you need to be more careful!" I've been hearing that my whole life. I'm not impulsive, I'm adventurous I shoot back, and I'm always careful in what I do, but I will admit to being a bit of an adrenaline junkie. It all started when my friends and I dared each other to jump off a rock into the river where we all lived nearby one summer, it was a thrill! We all squealed and giggle as we jumped in, the river cooling us on a hot summer day.
Then the rocks turned into, cliff diving into the ocean. Like taking a giant leap and canon-balling into the pool but on a much bigger scale! The salty and usually cold water warmed by the sun. Some of my friends joined me in this adventure, and us judging who made the biggest and loudest splash. Others were too scared of heights.
Another love of mine, besides diving into the ocean, river or lakes is rock climbing! The thrill that comes with climbing up a mountain is exhilarating, and the rush you get when you make it to the top is like nothing else in this world. The beauty of the world and nature spread out before you. The trees reaching out to the sky, seeming to kiss the sun, and the birds soaring in the sky around you, makes you feel like you are flying with them, standing on top of such great heights.
Hiking in the forests and up local mountains is another thrill on its own, being right there in nature, seeing expansive forest trees, ferns and moss. The sound and wildlife around you. Beautiful. Watching the birds fly from tree to tree singing away, the squirrels climbing up the trees to great heights, the deer walking so cautiously eating the grass and berries from the plants. It's amazing to journey so deep into the forest to witness such beauty. To find huge waterfalls, and be able to swim in them, to lay down in meadows and soak in the sunlight breaking in through the trees, the sunbeams dancing.
Camping is also a joy of mine, to be able to sleep in my tent nestled in the forest near a river or lake. Or sleeping under the stars on top of a mountain, being able to watch the stars at night. Waking up to the sunrise in the morning, a campfire to warm me, drinking a cup of coffee and breathing in the clean fresh air. I live for these days and mornings.
I'm just so grateful for where I live, to have forests to explore, mountains to climb, oceans to jump into, and countless lakes and rivers to swim in. I want to be able to protect this wonderful and beautiful world we live in. So I do what I can, I reduce, reuse, and recycle. Support non-profits, and volunteer for my local nature societies, that work to conserve nature. I always pick up litter I come across while on my adventures. I love this world, and I want others to be able to love it too.
