Buggie [Buhg-e] Naive - Caring - Protective - Intelligent

Buggie wasn't always called Buggie. She came by the name as many of us come by our sometimes unfortunate nicknames, from a bully on the school playground.

"Emily...what are you doing?" The golden-furred feli called out loudly, so the other kids nearby would hear. "Is that...a bug?" Cue a rather theatrical shudder from the young girl as she glanced quickly around to see if the others heard her. They had.

The light-green furred celinox looked up. In the naive way of the young who have yet to experience cruelty, she replied. "Yes, this is an isopod! Scientific name Isopoda Oniscidea Armadillidiidae, not to be confused with Armadillidae. Some people call them roly-pollies or pillbugs. Isn't he cute?" The girl held the small creature up for the feli to see.

The bully let out a shrill shriek. "EEW. She's playing with BUGS. That's DISGUSTING!" She flailed her arms around, crying out loudly for the group to hear. "And...and, she thinks it's CUTE!!" Done with the shrieking, she began to laugh, staring at the others to join in.

Then the mean comments began right along with the laughter, as they tend to do with kids. Eew! Gross! Girls don't like bugs! Bugbrain! I'll bet she's dirty and buggie!

"YES." The mean feli crowed triumphantly. "We'll call her BUGGIE from now on. It's the name she should have! Come on, you guys, let's get away from gross, dirty BUGGIE."

The girl flicked her tail and laughed cruelly, stalking off with the others, while the newly named Buggie sat staring after them, looking between the little roly-poly on her paw and the mean kids.

She shrugged. "Well, I still think you're cute. Insects are interesting and important. They can think whatever they want." She carefully placed the little bug back in the mulch under the tree and walked home.
