All worlds have magic and some contain a little more than others. For those worlds where magic lacks, humans make up for the loss by following mission of alchemy and science. But whether they find an affinity in the magical arts or in physical science, results and ambitions often coincide. Mortality is inevitable. Loneliness is burdensome. And in one of those worlds where humans preferred magic, one older woman found herself particularly lonely on a Thursday morning in the midst of December.
