Tetsuya Ishida was a Japanese painter of surreal art portraying contemporary Japanese life.
Ishida's works were about isolation, anxiety, crisis of identity, skepticism, claustrophobia and solitude. His paintings also included school-boys and business-men as a part of factories or young people integrated in everyday household objects.

An often reocurring motif was that in the form of a plastic shopping bag and Ishida always refused to explain the purpose and the meaning of it.

Ishida died of possible suicide by being struck by a train.
