151,600 each day. 6,316 each hour. 105 each minute. I have quite the quota to keep up with.

No, not all of it is me - that's just far too much for one reaper to handle, given the scale of the global population. I, however, would say that a very large amount is my handiwork. They don't call me Efficient without reason, after all.

Yes, I am one of many creatures that bring death upon those with an unfortunate fate. Old age, illness, injury, accident... no matter the cause, no matter how tragic, it is I that takes their souls away to the afterlife.

Except one.

One tiny little creature... such a small, sad looking thing... Truly, it has known a life of only loneliness and sorrow... it would almost be better to end it's life then let it continue on in this state...

But I cannot do it! Why? Why does this little creature have such a hold on me?! I've looked terminally ill children, surrounded by their grieving families, straight in their tired eyes as I ended their lives... and yet a ragged kitten elicits such a reaction in me that stops me from doing my one purpose in life!! I do not understand. It has long since past this Tatikati's time - almost by decades - and yet when I look into it's little beady eye... I can't seem to raise my scythe like I've done countless other times before.

This would truly be a problem for me if other reapers found out. I've tried to guide this little kitten away from me in hopes that it'd attach itself to some other ghostly visage of death that can better handle their emotions, but alas, it's to no avail. The Tatikati bobbles around the bottom of my robes, mewing away as the blood of passed souls drips onto it's terribly pathetic face.

The little minion does have it's plus sides, however. The dying seem to be much more at ease with it next to them. It almost works in my favor, as people are much less willing to fight the inevitable when there's a small comfort to help guide their souls along. Perhaps it is even helping my soul, if I do indeed have one.

So, I suppose I'll keep this little cat for now. I'll say it's my underling, if any of my peers ask - a secret weapon that keeps my numbers high. I doubt they would have an issue, then... it'll be hard to argue my handiwork against my moniker.

Oh, Tatikati is hungry... I suppose I should look for some work at the aquarium...
