Such an honorable title. One that carries extremely high expectations and with it, a responsibility to save the people. To save Skyrim. They would love you, praise you, even loathe you. But with all that attention, all the pressure; an obligation to do good.
Would it be worth it.
For Balthazaar, it wasn't. He would much rather do as he pleased, steal whatever was in reach, and kill anyone who got in his way, and of course kill any dragon that crossed his path. The thought of doing something just to please someone he was never going to see again made him sick. The only reason he did anything was for money, or revenge. And if it didn't pay well, you could forget about it.
Sure, at first he took on any task just to get by. But then he realized very quickly that it wasn't really worth it, it was... boring. Everything was so tedious, get this, get that. Stop him, join this guild, join that. Eventually Balthazaar stopped caring and only looked out for himself.
That is until he met her. Serana. The only quests worth doing, we're the ones that involved her. She lit a fire under him, made things exciting again. And when her father offered to turn him into a vampire lord for saving her, he jumped at the chance for something more.
Balthazaar had no idea that he was missing something so amazing. Being a vampire was so exhilarating, so powerful. This was where he belonged, this was him; the means to be himself. And no one could stop him or tell him what to do, not even the Greybeards, and definitely not the Daedric Princes. Can't claim a soul if you're immortal, and now he had all the time in the world.
And here he sat, upon his throne he gained after killing Harkon. The vampires watching him with fear and hate in their eyes. They were his to rule, and to command. He did wonder how long it would take before they started plotting to kill him and take the throne for themselves. He grinned at the thought. They would underestimate him and his power. Being the Dragonborn, he had abilities they couldn't even imagine. Though he knew he wouldn't be staying very long, and as much as he hated Skyrim, it needed some saving. Just because he was immortal now, didn't mean the rest of the world would wait for him, he would do it at his own pace with a couple murders in between.
At least things would never be boring again.
