Rhyanne was a relatively normal person, well as least as far as she was concerned. Most would argue that there was nothing normal about her, and she wasn't even a person in the way you may imagine her. Rhyanne was a lowly sage, a plain librarian working for the town wizard. She herself was a trained sorcerer and most definitely not human. You see humans can't breathe under water; Rhyanne could. Of course her magic abilities and gills were only due to her linage and race. Rhyanne was a humanoid creature with fish-like scales covering 40% of her translucent warm grey-blue flesh, on her neck she sported gill like slits allowing her to breathe underwater, her fingers and toes were webbed with a thin layer of skin, while her hair itself sat atop her head like a watery mane, defying the laws of gravity and physics, even moving and swaying with her as she walked She was normal, for a genasi. Her parents were both descendants of the djinn allowing them to posses strong storm sorcery which Rhyanne came by naturally and quickly build up a vast repertoire of manageable spells. She had never considered herself to be overly skilled, but her own magic intrigued her to study more and more which is how she developed her love of books.

Books were what lead her into trouble. Her deep adoration of books had brought her to the surface village near her watery home. She came to work for a middle-aged human wizard that went by the name of Ozwald. He was a brilliant man and Rhyanne enjoyed conversing with him, though they never discussed his research as he was quite tight-lipped about it. Her job was to be his librarian, she liked to think of herself as his personal assistant, however she decided that wouldn't be the most accurate description as she was clueless to his life's work, so she settled on simply labeling herself as a personal librarian. Ozwalf had a bountiful collection of books, journals and manuscripts that Rhyanne kept meticulous records of and when her work was complete she would choose one of the many scripts to read for herself. She was most assured that she had read and studied every single book Oz owned at least once, save for the one book she was not allowed to touch, his research journal. Ozwald poured hours on hours into scribbling in that book, so much so that Rhyanne got a job cataloging and organizing his books as well as preparing him meals as he often forgot to eat. She often wondered as the contents of the forbidden research that he denied her access to for the years she worked for him, but she never once broke the two cardinal rules. One. Never touch or read Ozwald's journal. Two. Never speak of Ozwalds journal to anyone. Ever.

There are days in one's life where hands of the fates are at work, days that a person remembers for the remainder of their life as a crossroads, a crucial moment or decision that changed the rest of their lives, wondering how their life could have been different. As is customary these life altering days often begin as any other and that is no different for Rhyanne.

Work was as normal, Ozwald in his study as Rhyanne scurried around the small abode re-shelving the scripts that Oz had used in his studies the day before. Many of the books were on magic, spells of all sorts, others were on biology, chemistry, or even fighting types and styles, each with their own use and their own place. Rhyanne swiftly organized the small stack she was working on before selecting a book for her own enjoyment. Taking a thick manuscript titled "Command of the Wind and Seas" - a classic document on storm sorcery - Rhyanne began boiling water to make evening tea, before locating a comfortable chaise to recline in with her chosen text. The water had not yet boiled when a noise was heard from outside and smoke began filling the room.

What happened next was a blur for Rhyanne later she would only recall vague details of the event. The front door was knocked in and multiple men in spiked leather armor filled the room wielding weapons of all kinds. Flames began to lick the walls as the fire spread from the outside in. Rhyanne was quickly subdued by one of the men who towered over her six foot frame, he roughly twisted her hands behind her back as the other men began tearing books from the shelves and searching for Ozwald. Rhyanne struggled against her captors vice grip and after hearing a ruckus coming from Oz's study she did something she had vowed never to do. Rhyanne closed her eyes and concentrated. Opening them again, her eyes were glassy white orbs brimming with power, power that was never intended to harm others. In a fluid well practiced motion Rhyanne made a claw with her imprisoned hand, focusing her magic in her palm. With a burst of icy energy her attacker wailed in agony and released their grip. Taking advantage of the situation Rhyanne dashed to the study finding walls of flame where bookshelves once stood, desks were overturned, crates busted open, papers scattered, yellowing from the radiating heat of the flames. In the far side of the room two intruders stood over a bloodied heap on the floor. Without hesitation this time, Rhyanne began casting, in seconds a ray of frost sprouted from her outstretched hand knocking the two men unconscious before they even noticed her enter the room.

Where the last sixty seconds has passed in gale force speeds, the next twenty would pass as if time it's self had frozen. Rhyanne could recall how many steps it took her to reach Ozwald's expiring form. She could recall the scent of burning manuscripts, the creak of the floorboards beneath her feet, the ashy air that stung her eyes, and she'd never forget the strong odor of blood that made her stomach heave. Kneeling beside Oz, she gently took his bony hand in her own. Ozwald gasped loudly, startling Rhyanne, he reached into his waistcoat pocket with his free hand and places a small ornate key in Rhyanne's hand. "Take it," he rasped, "take it and run. Keep it safe. Run, your life depends on it. Rhyanne, I..." Ozwald's voice trailed off as the light left his eyes, his body failing him. The girl understood the message, clutching the key to her breast, she sorrowfully closed the eyes of her dear friend and employer. There she knelt her body unmoving, her thoughts both stagnant and muddled, her scenes dimmed until a pop of the roaring flames brought her back to the present, time had once again began to flow. With the utmost haste, Rhyanne took the key and moved to the trap door beneath the professor's heavy oak desk, inserting the orate key into the enclosed lock box she withdrew the forbidden book, Ozwald's research notes. Holding them close she dashed from the burning house, only stopping to snatch a mostly unsinged heavy cloth to wrap her precious cargo in.

She ran. She ran just as Ozwald had told her. She ran far away from the water she loved, her parents she admired and every other thing familiar to her with no hope of ever returning. She was on her own now, she slept under the stars and took mercenary type jobs killing monsters and collecting debts. In her free time under the cover of night when no one was near Rhyanne began to try and decipher the code that was keeping Oz's notes a mystery. She knew his library, she knew the book had something to do with wizard magic and that would have to be enough, she was the only one who could decode it.

Weeks passed, as did months and Rhyanne had very few breakthroughs, but she had learned the over arching secret of the notes, she now knew of the horrible types of spells that it described in intricate detail. She was learning them as she went, absorbing information like a sponge. Rhyanne had already mastered basic wizarding spells, many of which were similar to her sorcerers spells, but her power was growing, she was no longer a simple storm sorcerer, she was something more, she was a dual class magician, sorcerer and necromancer wizard. She now knew the secrets of the dead, the dead now did her bidding so heaven help the poor soul who dares attempt stealing HER spellbook. Knowledge is power.
