Elegon spends the majority of his days soaring through the endless black sky, bathed in the glow of the countless planetoids that orbit around him. He passes by wisps of clouds and flashes of stars, occasionally passing close enough to a planetoid to see what life is like on its surface. He's seen people in all stages of life—from birth to death, from joy to misery.
But he doesn't get too close. He knows it's not his place to interfere with mortals.
Until today.
Today, he hears what sounds like a battle happening near one of the planetoids. He flies closer and sees that it is indeed a battle between several creatures and one mortal: a young woman with long blond hair and a sword at her side. She is surrounded by bandits and seems badly injured.
Elegon lets out a booming voice and descends from the sky, causing all of the bandits to flee in terror. The young woman looks up at him with eyes full of hope, then collapses from exhaustion as he approaches her.
But it is too late, the light in her eyes dims, another star in his body blinks out.
The sudden realization that he is made of these beings, when they all die, so will he. He can no longer sit idly by, he must protect them all, if only to save himself.
