Are you ready to let go? Oh dear, it's ok not to be. Don't hide your tears from me, there's no need. I? No, I'm not Death. Death came as quick as she left - she's got a lot to do. Maybe you didn't even notice her, right? It's a common mistake. I'm just here to do the cleaning. Once things die, you see, everything that it was must be returned to Mother Earth, so the cycle can go on. I'm decay - I bring with me moss, vermin, funghi and all else that will claim back to rest what was once active... what once lived. If it wasn't for me, dear, I guarantee that this world would be made of piles and piles of things Death touched, but didn't take away completely. Well, it's a lonely, eternal labor... When I arrive, there's a feeling of loss in the air - of course, one life must end so another one can begin - and I usually go unnoticed for a while - or until it smells. Or, maybe, I'll be seen as a annoyance for taking things away from people - from small amounts of food that no longer can bear to be food to entire buildings and memories, eaten away by mold and woodworm. Well, there's nothing I can do, it's my job. People hold no special place to me - I don't differ a human body from a slice of stale bread or a fallen log. But please, hold no grudges to me. It's necessary, I swear it is. In the end, there are no winners - all will be claimed by me, for I and Time, despite being slow, are eternal. So maybe this will serve you: If I'm carrying away the physical form of that which you loved, rest assured that one day you, too, will be carried. And it won't hurt anymore. And once all things are dead, I'll still be here, working. So even then, no matter how much of a disaster happens, how deep the cut was... new life will still sprout in this world, perhaps in one way or another. This one body too is going with me – so cry your tears and feel deeply as you must, for you're alive. But in the end, just be sure that you, too, will be claimed Back.
