The robotic canine watches from afar as its master traverses the Glowing Sea of the video game Fallout 4. It is a new addition that is currently exclusive to Microsoft's newest console, the Xbox One X. After speculation among gamers, Microsoft formally announced the canine as 'Scorpio' which was the original project name of the console. Now it is a bit of an easter egg to gamers across the world as it makes an appearance in every game.

But Scorpio is more than just an easter egg. It is also a marketing tool.

Scorpio is programmed to watch its master's every move in any game. It takes notes of how its master plays games. This often includes how focused on the story he is, if he goes out of his way for loot, if he skips through dialogue options and cut scenes, etcetera. Scorpio then releases the data it collects to a physical version of itself that is kept at the Microsoft Headquarters named 'Android.' Essentially, Android is the hardware while Scorpio is the software. As new games release, the data is imported into Android which is linked up with Scorpio. Scorpio will then download that information and gain knowledge of the game. It is currently being test piloted in Xbox One X consoles, but Microsoft hopes to implement Scorpio into all Xbox consoles at some point.

But of course, gamers are actually unaware that the 'easter egg' is tracking their every move in video games.

Similar to NPCs in a game, Scorpio is programmed to eventually be found by gamers. As the gamer approaches a specific location in a game, Scorpio will stay put. In case of Fallout 4, Scorpio's 'spawn location' is at the Red Rocket truck stop located in the Glowing Sea. With its master being so close, it has taken its spot inside the truck stop. It can hear its master approach. A radscorpion appears from underground and its master has no problem taking it down.

A door opens and its master's character enters the truck stop. After a brief moment, Scorpio can hear the rustle of its master's headset as he puts it on. "Scorpio, hey!" Scorpio is unlike other easter eggs. Gamers can actually interact with the robotic canine. Scorpio's temperament is similar to a real dog, or a dog much like Dogmeat in Fallout 4. It barks and wags its robotic tail.

Its master is actually not far into the game in terms of the story. He hasn't allied with any of the factions yet. Scorpio has taken note that its master has actually been spending most of his time exploring the wasteland in order to unlock fast point locations on his map. He is rather high in level despite where he currently is in the story and has some powerful gear already. With how dangerous the Glowing Sea is, its master hasn't had too much of a trouble traversing it.

Scorpio has obtained a good amount of information about the gamer. Its master's character bends down to pet the canine. "You're a bit out of place for a game like this," he says with a chuckle. "I've read online that once I've completed the game, you can become one of my companions! That will be cool." Scorpio barks in agreement. The character looks into its Pip-Boy. "I've almost got the map completed and then I can continue on with the story. Maybe I'll save some side quests so that I can have you tag along as a companion." He looks down at Scorpio and gives it one last pat on the head. "Well, I've gotta go boy. We'll team up soon, I promise!" Scorpio barks and then watches its master leave the truck stop. The Xbox canine uploads its data to Android back at the headquarters before it continues to study its master.
