They had promised to meet outside the local coffee shop just after 8pm, it was late enough to be dark but still early enough to have plenty of people walking by to not feel dread creeping down one's spine. She rubbed an arm and gripped her bag closer to herself as she spared one final glance down at her cellphone and felt a ping of sadness echo in her chest. Looks like D wasn't coming tonight. Perhaps it was all for the best, they had that kind of relationship that was all over the place, like a roller-coaster. Was tonight finally where it all comes to an end?
Maybe she should wait another ten minutes just to be on the safe side, he could merely be busy with other things, yeah. With a nod she turned and headed into the coffee shop and ordered a simple green tea with lemon and took a seat by the large front window, glancing out onto the street with a hopeful expression on her face and in her heart. By the time she was done her drink it was nearing 9pm and it was clear now that D wasn't coming. Oh how she felt like a fool for waiting. With a final goodbye to the owner of the shop she went home.
No sense in feeling too broken up about it, D was a bad boy, he said so himself on many occasions. He was the type of guy who did whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted with no care for anyone. Personally she thought she could change him, in a way, she didn't want to come off as that person who only liked someone to make them someone else entirely, that wasn't right and she would never do that. No she always thought she could just make him do a little better as a person but that clearly wasn't working. Whenever she saw him again than this might just be the goodbye they both had to say.
Once she got home it was getting much more brisk out and she already regretted the light jacket she had been wearing, along with those new heeled boots she bought the other day. Closing and locking the front door behind her she knelt down and greeted the pair of rescue pups she was fostering, basking in the love and excitement they had for her just being home. That made her feel almost one hundred percent better, still she couldn't get D off her mind. She checked on food and water for the pups and went to get ready for bed.
By the time her nightly ritual had been completed she was tucked in and had her book opened to get lost in a whole new world. Of course before she could even get word one read her phone rang from her nightstand. Now normally she would just ignore that and let it go to voicemail, she was in bed now, this was her personal time... still it might be an emergency and she'd feel bad if she ignored the person calling. With a tiny hum she picked up the phone and nearly jumped. D was calling her! Oh... dear... looks like she'd have to play it cool right about now, that wasn't easy.
