Dear Mentor Kairos:

As you no doubt have guessed, it is I, Erelin. The one you have tasked with finding the secret to "unlocking" the true power of the Legendary weapons. My progress is as follows:

Per your instructions, I have been using the Legendary you entrusted to me, Shimmer. In combat it is a decent weapon, but only that - decent. While I do detect traces of a magical force humming through it, I have been unable to make use of it so far.

My friend Galena, if you recall, is a self-taught expert on crystals, stones, and minerals. She believes the key to unsealing the Legendaries lies in a combination of elemental crystals, crafted onto the weapon itself. I have been testing her theory lately by enhancing Shimmer with some of the crystals she provided. While the performance of the weapon did improve somewhat, it is still only a fraction of the "unsealing" we are looking for.

Rumors have also reached me of a synthetic "key" named Sentinel, manufactured with advanced technology. Supposedly it was created for the specific purpose of enhancing the Legendaries. Unfortunately, as of this writing, I have not yet been able to confirm those rumors, nor obtain more information, such as who created Sentinel in the first place. The invention of such a thing at all worries me. Naturally, I will inform you as soon as I know more.

Personally, I do not believe the answer we seek lies in either of these directions. I believe the answer is somewhere in the distant past, hopefully recorded somewhere by the ones who created the Legendary weapons. To this end, I have contacted record keepers, librarians, archaeologists, anyone in the whole of Subeta who might have any old records at all. I have received a few copies of such documents and expect more soon.

Based on what little I have been able to translate so far, I have developed a tentative theory. It may be possible that, if the Legendary weapons contain as much power as we think, their creators may have inhibited them on purpose; deliberately making the process difficult or obscure so that not just anyone could seize one or more of them and wreak havoc across the land. If that is the case, then perhaps we should be very cautious about trying to undo their work.

Since I am on the subject, I must confess that this entire assignment concerns me. When I asked my superiors why we needed to know how to unseal a Legendary weapon at all, I was told that someone "dangerous" was already attempting to do so "with less than noble intentions", which is frustratingly vague. But when I pressed for more details, I was more or less brushed aside. Mentor Kairos, sir, forgive my impertinence, but if there is anything else you can tell me about the entire point of this assignment, please do so. Specifically, who else is trying to unseal a Legendary, and for what purpose? I worry about the repercussions of our actions, and what we may do with the answer if we somehow manage to find it.

Again, I apologize for my skeptical tone. Though as you certainly remember, it is my nature. Please advise when you can, I eagerly await your reply. -E

P.S. There is a wealthy family here in Ytiva that owns a sort of antique shop. I may pay them a visit in the near future; it is possible I may find some useful information there.
