Sonic doesn't remember much about his past.

What he does remember is that he's always been able to run at blazing speeds, even if he's never really been sure how or why he can. It's how he'd gotten his name, after all. And he remembers Longclaw, in a sort of hazy, childhood memory sort of way. He remembers the kindness in her eyes, and how she'd always looked after him.

Sonic also remembers their final day together, when he'd made the mistake of using his powers out in the open. He was only a child at the time, and yet a part of him thinks he should have known better. He should have listened to Longclaw and followed her warnings. He'd put them both in danger and been forced to flee to another dimension so far removed from what he was familiar with.

That was ten years ago.

Things are different now. Sonic's powers may still be more or less a mystery to him, but he feels like he has more control. His electric outbursts have become less frequent and he has to admit he's pretty proud of that, considering the first time it happened it got him into a lot of trouble.

Still, all that trouble amounted to something good, didn't it?

All those years he'd spent in isolation, watching the world from afar, wishing he didn't have to hide. It was finally over. The journey was difficult and frightening, but he'd learned to no longer fear himself and what he was capable of, but instead harness it to protect his friends. Friends. Not just friends, but his family. That's all he wanted.

Sonic finally felt like he was home.
