Mr. Philbert Softwool is the perfect example of a friend.
He was gifted to his human, a short redheaded girl named Sarah, when she was only one year old.
Her parents found the handmade plush in a faire, the place where they first met, his big blue eyes staring at them from the other side of the market, where years later they would return to celebrate and find him sitting there still. He was a fun token of their love, an intern joke and would surely be the best present for their baby.
Barely did Philbert know that said day when he was finally being taken home he would have such a noble destiny: being friend, the best friend, to a lovable child.

They were the best friends, for she found in Philbert the best confident she would ever have — he would stare at her with big caring eyes and stand there for hugging and cuddling, and the greatests and softest ones as only the best plushies could give. Not to mention he smelled just like her, too, and he wouldn't mind her drooling on his plush during some of her heavy morning naps.
But Sarah got old, and so did Philbert. She wouldn't talk to him as she used to. Philbert's plush was quite a lot more fuzzy and maybe with some stains here or there, perhaps a seam that was needed years ago when Sarah rescued him from the dog's mouth a little too strong. Yet, he was always there for her, as comforting as ever.

I could tell you that Sarah threw him away, donated him or something like that. But the truth is Mr. Philbert, now an adorable senior plush, still lies on her nightstand, the loyal guardian to her clock and the one to greet her goodmorning even before her husband does. And he still gets hugged very tight, in secret, by Sarah, as they both await for the baby to come in the world.
