"Ruy!"
The red-haired elven girl entered the workshop in a hastle, her tiny waist deviating from the sculptures crammed shelves. The dragon lifted his head in a lazy gesture and, not minding her, turned to the window so his scales would get warm at the sunlight.
"The king asked for 100 pieces for the village carnival fair, we have a lot of work to do!"
With some unwillingness, Ruy landed on the worktable and puffed out a perfect and controlled jet of blue fire, as the elf manipulated the glass to take the shape of a beautiful crystal dragon. The girl left the piece aside to cool, then started one more, then another one next.
The sun went down early that day, but the two of them managed to finish their work before the workshop gets dark.
"Thank you Ruy! That was brilliant. Wait for me here, I'm going to the patisserie buy you the sweetest pastry I can find!"
He returned to his place by the window as the elven girl left to the village. In the moment she came back with the smell of a warm pastry flooding the workshop, Ruy jumped up in the air in a pirouette of joy, his careless wings knocking over the sculptures on the shelves and masking the workshop floor with a layer of glass dust.
"RUY! Your little silly creature! What are we going to do now? The fair is tomorrow and we have nothing to present to the king!"
Ruy bent his head bewildered. They were silent for a moment, one resenting the other. But Ruy then took off, dropping small balls of blue fire that hung in the air, illuminating the workshop. And he started to clean the mess, and she joined him.
Neither of them slept for a minute, the air in the workshop got hot with the dragon fire carving glass all night. When the day dawned, they had both sleepy eyes but were very proud of their work.
Carrying 100 carefully wrapped sculptures, they decided to spend the last few hours left before the fair in the patisserie, tasting one pastry of each flavour, feeling deserving of that beautiful sunny day of carnival.
