It is said that the pigs on Pig Island (also called Pig Beach, or its more official names: Major Cay and Big Major Cay) were dropped off by a group of sailors who intended to return to the island to cook them. Another legend says that a few pigs survived a shipwreck and came ashore on the previously uninhabited island and flourished with no humans in sight. Yet another says that they are simply a business ploy to lure tourists to the island. Wherever the pigs came from originally, the island is now home to around 20 pigs and piglets. Visitors enjoy feeding them, swimming with them, and watching their antics. Whatever their beginning, these pigs are living the easy life now!
