When I took my dog in, I beckoned him in with us.
He came in and ran around the park with my Mac.
No one else was there at first, but slowly people started coming and I asked if the pup looked familiar to any of them.
Everyone said "no".
We stayed for about 2 hours. I was hoping owners would come looking for him.
No one did... I left a note on the bulletin board announcing my find.
After a visit to a local pet shop and a vet to scan for a microchip... I brought him home and began searching the web for missing pups.
For a while we didn't call him anything. Then we tried random names. I wanted to name him Gio or Leo... He seemed Italian, to me:) But a little boy staying with us at the time wanted his name to be Theo.
Thus... TheoLeo became his name while we had him... more so out of indecision and silliness... but it stuck.
After several postings and searches, I thought I had found his owners....A couple of times :/. A few people thought he was theirs... but he turned out not to be :(
After months of being convinced I was going to find the owners of this clearly loved and well behaved dog... I was ready to start looking for a new home for him.
No one wanted him "intact". So... I got him neutered. Poor guy... :)
I had asked around...a few families were interested... but nobody committed to him.
At Christmas, my sister decided we would keep him.
TheoLeo became a permanent member of our little family...
He fits in well.... I think he likes having a brother, too.
2022 UPDATE:
After Mac's passing... TheoLeo and I coped together. We tried to stay busy with an activity every morning. We adventured like Mac and I would, but unfortunately, it is just not his thing. He doesn't handle distances very well and he seems to prefer a life of leisure. :) He likes a nice walk every now and then... but that's about it.
2025 UPDATE:
TheoLeo has become quite the adventurer. In 2024 Theo really came alive. I changed his diet to include more natural foods and started him on a joint supplement ... that boy loves his walks and hikes now. Before, he could barely handle a mile. Now we'll go traipsing around for several miles. He has to pee on every plant we find... and check whatever "pee mail" was there before.
I was reminiscing over McLintock's profile and reading it today. It is amazing how TheoLeo was so different from Mac and how he has now developed very similar behaviors. Some of those things that Mac would do... TheoLeo now does. It gets me every once in awhile. It makes my heart happy.
